Breath of the Wild was the perfect game to launch alongside the Nintendo Switch. The latest entry in the Legend of Zelda series has gone on to become one of the most highly regarded games in video game history. Since its release, fans were hoping for a sequel and those hopes were answered when Nintendo announced Breath of the Wild 2 at E3 2019.

No release date was given for the upcoming sequel, but now it seems that it may be sooner than we think.

Release Date Leaked?

Twitter user Ezereal spotted the release date for Breath of the Wild 2 on the website of Austrian retailer Gameware.

Gameware have stated that the release date will be in Q2 of 2021, which should put it at some point between April and June 2021.

This date does make sense, with the 35th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda being this year.

Last year saw the 35th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros series, with Nintendo going all out with new games and merchandise, so we can expect the same thing with Zelda too.

Rather than simply giving us a port of an old game, 2021 would be the perfect year to release BOTW.

But, until Nintendo officially announce its release date, this just remains a rumour.
