Like any other big franchise, it was no surprise when plans to adapt Uncharted into film began as early as 2008. And after more than a decade, the long wait was finally over. The film was theatrically released last month.
Its opening surpassed projections in the United States and Canada, grossing $44 million in three days and $51.3 million in four days. This is definitely not a slow start, but such was not the case so far in China.
The film was released in China last Monday, March 14, 2022, but according to a tweet by Daniel Ahmad, Senior Analyst at Niko Partners, the film was “off to a slow start in China.”
He further stated that “unfortunate timing for the release due to COVID-19 flare-up leading to lockdowns in certain cities + cinema closures.”

Earlier this week, Uncharted was also banned in Vietnam because of a scene showing images of a map that depicts China’s claim over disputed territory in the South China Sea.
Uncharted (film) stars Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, a young fortune hunter, and bartender alongside Mark Wahlberg, Sophia Ali, Antonio Banderas, and Tati Gabrielle, and is in theatres now.
