Pokemon Go: How to change to and use a different Pokeball type

The Pokemon series has had different types of Pokeball for a long time, so here’s a quick tip on how you can change your used Pokeball type in Pokemon Go for capturing wild Pokemon, assuming you have any different types to use, anyway.

How to change to a different Pokeball type in Pokemon Go

Swapping Pokeball types in Pokemon Go is pretty easy to do; all you need to do is tap on the Pokeball icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, then select one of the options presented to swap to it.

After doing so, you’ll now be able to see the different selected Pokeball type being thrown up and down passively on the capture screen, waiting to be thrown at the Pokemon.

Provided you have one of a type of a ball, it should appear in that menu. At the moment, Pokemon Go features standard Pokeballs, Great balls and Ultra balls – the core trio, in other words.

There are also premier balls present in the game, but those are used after raid battles exclusively, and you cannot swap to other types of Pokeball in that scenario at all; you either catch the Pokemon with your premier balls or fail to capture it at all and it flees.

As you’d expect from the rest of the series, Great balls are an upgrade when compared to the basic Poke balls, and Ultra balls are superior to both of them.

We don’t yet have other series ball types in Pokemon Go, such as those that excelled at capturing particular types, or the likes of the Master Ball making an appearance. Honestly though, if they were going to employ the Master Ball I would have thought it’d be during the Mew capture quest in Pokemon Go that everyone is given.
