Nanab berries are one of the main consumable items in Pokemon Go, but what do Nanab Berries actually do in the game?

If you’ve been wondering what Nanab berries do, then don’t wonder any longer because the answer turns out to be quite simple.

Nanab berries are used to make a Pokemon less evasive in an encounter; we all have some that wind us up a bit too much after all. It might be Magnemite flying all over the place, or the likes of an Aerodactyl who just flew straight upwards and refuses to come back down until you’ve wasted a few ultra balls trying to hit it.

Any of these kinds of evasive moves a Pokemon can make will be reduced, if not completely stopped, through the usage of a Nanab berry. This makes them very useful for specific Pokemon, and not so useful for others.

It’s also believed to reduce the number of attack animations a Pokemon will do when you attempt to capture them – such as when Machop will punch a ball away, or Sawk performing a chop on it.

All in all, Nanab berries are best employed against Pokemon that simply will not sit still.

Of course, they do nothing to boost capture chance, which can be a problem if you’re against a particularly mobile mythical or legendary Pokemon after a raid battle. In those cases, you are often better employing a Razz berry for capture chance and simply trying to deal with the evasiveness, but if you find yourself simply unable to hit the Pokemon at all, throwing a Nanab at it cannot go wrong for you.

Just remember that if it escapes the ball afterwards, you’ll need to throw another one. Berry boosts last for only one capture attempt.
