Pokemon Go: The new Research Breakthrough for April

Research Breakthrough August 2022

The details of the Research breakthrough in Pokemon Go for April are now here; we can expect to be visited by Alolan Marowak this month.

April Research Breakthrough in Pokemon Go

Starting on the first of April at 9:00 PM GMT, the research breakthrough event will update to this April version. Prior to this time, we’ll technically still be in the previous month for research breakthrough purposes, so be careful before you claim any research rewards unless you’re trying to get the rewards for the month prior.

The event will run for a month as you’d expect and will end on May 1st at 9:00 PM GMT when it is replaced again.

For the duration of the month, any complete research breakthroughs will reward you with an encounter with Alolan Marowak.

Alolan Marowak can be encountered as a Shiny Pokemon in the wild in Pokemon Go currently, which means that these research spawned ones should also have a chance to appear as the shiny variant

How do I get a research breakthrough in Pokemon Go?

A Research breakthrough is the name given to what happens when you complete a set of 7 stamps earned through research tasks. You can earn one such stamp a day, and completing a single research task on that day will earn you the stamp.

When you reach 7 total stamps, you will have the breakthrough event occur. This will usually then take priority over other research rewards and begin an encounter with the featured breakthrough Pokemon for the month; in April that’ll mean Alolan Marowak.

Anything else?

Surprisingly no, there doesn’t seem to be any form of additional reward for a research breakthrough nowadays. A few months ago season events would typically add some kind of bonus to them other than simply getting a Pokemon encounter, but that doesn’t seem to be happening anymore.
