Pokemon Go: Raid timing sees Tornadus appear with a real Tornado

Tornadus is a Pokemon with a Tornado inspired theme, but a Pokemon Go player recently encountered that taken to an extremely real extent.

So what happened with the Tornadus raid in Pokemon Go?

In a thread posted to the Pokemon Go Subreddit, u/ANormalN4me had an encounter with Tornadus, the Cyclone Pokemon, that was a bit more… realistic than Pokemon Go can normally achieve.

To be specific, during the raid hour event for Tornadus, an emergency alert was pushed in u/ANormalN4me’s area with a warning from the national weather service that there would be a Tornado warning in the area lasting in sync with the end of the Tornadus raid hour in Pokemon Go.

Raid hours for those who are unfamiliar with these events, take place in localised times around the world. Whatever your time zone, that means that you can expect to see them start at 6PM and finish an hour later at 7 PM.

With the alert taking place until 7 PM, it seems to have appeared partway through the event and lasted until the end of the Tornadus raid hour, Pokemon Go successfully having managed to coordinate with a Tornado in the process.

Of course short of Tornadus actually being real for an hour to cause that, it’s naturally a coincidence and nothing more than a fun bit of timing. That didn’t stop the Reddit thread from having a fair few jokes at Niantic going a bit crazy to promote the event though, as you may expect.

And others meanwhile predicting and joking that the in-game weather system will somehow still not be in a windy state, thus resulting in Tornadus not getting a weather boost effect despite there being a literal Tornado outside.
