Pokemon Go: Niantic taking criticism on Lure Box Price

Pokemon Go Lure Modules Title

The new event in Pokemon Go has brought with it a lure box bundle for a reduced price, sounds great right? There’s a catch, of course, and players aren’t overly thrilled.

So what’s going on with the Lure box price in Pokemon Go?

Lures in Pokemon Go aren’t particularly well priced at the usual store rates as-is, so bundles with a discounted price are usually the best chance players get to buy up some of them and save coins. Bear in mind, for a free to play player, you can only earn a maximum of 50 coins per day, meaning a price tag of 400 coins is 8 days of maximum earnings to buy.

So what’s the problem, the prices are reduced, right?

Well, yes, they are.

The problem is that the prices are actually reduced at different rates between different players, seemingly at random – with the same content in the box. My box for example cost 350 coins, for the same Lures as the ones shown above, which notably costs 500 coins instead.

Users on /r/PokemonGo have caught on to this, and it’s caused at least two different threads, with different Redditors providing plenty of examples as to the different price listings they are getting in those threads.

This is still a reduction in what these lures would cost on the Pokemon Go store without the bundle box pricing, but for F2P players, most would avoid the default pricing of 200 per lure and wait for cheaper bundle offers – so this very visible public price testing leads some to believe it may be to see what the highest amount players will put in for those bundles is

The difference between the 700 coin pricing and the 350 coin pricing is literally a week of effort for F2P players, after all, so it’s not the most welcome sight for many players.

Is there anything else?

That’s all there is to talk about regarding the Lure box pricing in Pokemon Go at the moment, though with pricing tactics like this it’s possible Niantic might be about to start themselves another fan backlash if they keep it up, even after the one earlier in the year around Pokestop interaction distances.
