In the past two years at roughly this time, the Pokemon GO Jump Start Research questline had been added and reintroduced to help new players catch up with battle ready Pokemon and a fair number of neat resources while longtime players could get fairly rare goodies as well. Once again, the questline has reappeared for any players who have not already completed the questline in years past. Luckily, I just so happen to be going through the quests myself. Here’s all you need to know from quest objectives and rewards!

Jump-Start Research 1/6

  • Make a new friend (5000 XP)
  • Catch 3 Pokémon with Weather Boost (5000 XP)
  • Hatch an Egg (5000 XP)

For completing this tier, you receive two Lucky Eggs, 15,000 Stardust, and a Dratini Encounter. Thankfully, the quests aren’t too tough. An Egg will show up after spinning virtually any Pokestop, and Weather Boost will likely be active for at least three Pokemon in a few days.

Jump-Start Research 2/6

  • Earn a Candy walking with your buddy (30x Dratini Candy)
  • Take a snapshot of Dratini (30x Dratini Candy)
  • Evolve a Dratini (10,000 XP)

Completion of this tier has the same rewards as the last tier, though the Dratini Encounter is replaced with one Premium Raid Pass. This is super easy as the 30 candies will allow you to evolve Dratini nearly right away, and a snapshot takes a minute to take at most. Keep the newly evolved Dragonair for later, though.

Jump-Start Research 3/6

  • Power up Pokémon 10 times (15,000 XP)
  • Battle another Trainer in the Great League (15,000 XP)
  • Battle in a Raid (15,000 XP)

Once again, two Lucky Eggs and 15,000 Stardust are given upon completion, as well as two Star Pieces. Aside from the Raid battle, this tier is pretty easy overall. Unfortunately living in a rural area just makes Raids more difficult to attend.

Jump-Start Research 4/6

  • Catch 5 different species of Pokémon (Chimchar Encounter)
  • Catch a Legendary from either a Research Breakthrough or Raid (Piplup Encounter)
  • Hatch 3x Eggs (Turtwig Encounter)

The new reward for this tier is a Shiny Eevee encounter in addition to the normal others. Might I recommend Sylveon or Umbreon as cool Shiny Eeveelutions. Either way, this tier will likely resolve itself over time. Even a rural player can aim to do one of the Research Breakthrough Legendary encounters with enough work.

Jump-Start Research 5/6

  • Take a snapshot of Eevee (30,000 XP)
  • Send 5 gifts to friends (30,000 XP)
  • Trade 3 Pokémon (30,000 XP)

Here, a Lapras is given upon completion of the tier in addition to more eggs and dust. If you even have a friend in close proximity to trade with, this tier is a breeze. At most it’ll take 5 days with a single friend.

Jump-Start Research 6/6

  • Make a new friend (60x Dratini Candy)
  • Win a level 3 or higher Raid (60x Dratini Candy)
  • Evolve a Dragonair (100,000 XP)

To cap off our usual rewards, 100,000 EXP is given upon completion of the tier. This is where the Dragonair from a few steps back was useful. Additionally, you have the powerhouse that is Dragonite! If you’ve gotten this far the Raid should be no problem, and plenty of sites to add new friends exist.

There’s the entire Pokemon GO Jump Start Research questline with objectives and rewards! While the EXP is pretty negligible for a level 34 player like myself, I WILL enjoy the Shiny Eevee and Lucky Eggs if nothing else. To anyone debating joining Pokemon GO, now is a great time to do so as the questline will stay forever upon receiving it.
