Pokemon Go has plenty of useful items, and you can get a lot of them out of gifts, but how do you open gifts? How do you use them?

As you might expect from the name, gifts are for giving, and I’m here to show you precisely how you can do that.

How do you open gifts in Pokemon Go?

As mentioned above, gifts in Pokemon Go are for giving. You can’t directly extract any benefit out of them without doing so – there’s no way to open a gift you got from a Pokestop yourself for example. To open a gift it has to be sent to you by someone else.

So, naturally this means that the answer to our question of how do you open gifts in Pokemon Go requires someone else to send us one.

If your friend list is a bit light for that to be a regular occurrence, you might want to check out our guide on where to find more Pokemon Go friends.

When you have friends sending you gifts, you just need to head to your friend list by tapping your avatar icon then pressing the Friends menu. From here, simply find someone who has sent you a gift in the list by looking out for a gift icon in the middle of the screen, alongside the text “-name here- sent you a gift!”

From there all you need to do is tap on them in the list and it’ll open their profile page, with the gift in focus as shown above. Just hit open and then you’ll have your new shiny items.

We’ve also previously covered how many gifts you can open per day in Pokemon Go, for those more popular Trainers.

Is there anything else to be aware of?

Not really, how to open gifts in Pokemon Go is one of the simpler questions to answer.

Just get yourself a decent size friend list of active players and you can expect to see plenty of gifts per day stocking up your item list for free.
