Pokemon Go: How to evolve Porygon into Porygon2

Porygon2 in Pokemon Sword and Shield

Porygon2 is the second iteration of the Normal-type Virtual Pokemon, Porygon, but how exactly do you get Porygon2 in Pokemon Go? What extra item do you need?

Fortunately, this is both a pretty easy evolution for me to summarise, and for you to pull off, so let’s get into the details.

How to get Porygon2 in Pokemon Go

Porygon2 is about as simple as item evolutions in Pokemon Go get, really. You’ll need a Porygon to start from, and the usual requirement of 25 candies for any first stage evolution in a 3-family Pokemon set.

That’ll mean you should catch around 5 to 9 Porygon, depending on if you use Pinap berries or not. You could, of course, speed that process up using rare candy, but I’d really recommend saving those for legendary Pokemon or the like, to be honest.

Next up, you’ll need an Upgrade, so let’s talk about those.

I’ve talked more about the Upgrade item in the linked article above, though realistically there wasn’t a lot to talk about. Upgrades are exclusively used to evolve Porygon into Porygon2, so unless you’re holding out for a better Porygon to evolve, there really isn’t a reason to hang on to them.

If you don’t have any Upgrades in Pokemon Go to evolve your Porygon into Porygon2, you get a chance to find one every single time you spin a Pokestop, get your seventh-day spin streak reward, or as a reward from research tasks and potentially from gifts.

All of these different sources can build up and if you do these things regularly, you’ll probably have a few of them by the time you need them anyway.

With that in mind, evolving Porygon into Porygon2 is one of, if not the absolute easiest, of all the item evolutions.

Is there anything else to know?

There really aren’t other options to use an Upgrade so unless you’re debating which Porygon to use Upgrades on, you’re best off just hitting the evolve button right away and getting the short animation over with already.

There aren’t any other Pokemon to hang on to them for, so it really does come down to simply which Porygon to evolve.

That’s about everything that needs to be said for how to get Porygon2 in Pokemon Go, really.
