Pokemon Go: How to evolve Poliwhirl into Politoed

Politoed in the Pokemon anime

Politoed is one of the final evolutions of the Gen-I Tadpole Pokemon, Poliwag, but how do you get Politoed in Pokemon Go? Which item is used?

Fortunately, this will be a pretty easy question to answer, and players will only have to choose between Politoed and one other Pokemon for this particular evolution item, so let’s get right into it.

How to get Politoed in Pokemon Go

As with any other item-locked evolution, you’ll need to fulfil two separate requirements to get Politoed in Pokemon Go. First of all, of course, you’ll need a Poliwag or Poliwhirl to evolve into Politoed in the first place.

Although with that said, you’d probably need to catch quite a few of those Pokemon, given you’ll need at minimum 100 candies to evolve a Poliwhirl into Politoed, or 125 if you’re starting from Poliwag.

Of course, you can speed up the candy gathering by using Pinap berries, or rare candy. Though I’d really recommend saving those rare candies for legendary Pokemon or the like, to be honest.

With the Pokemon and Candy out of the way, next up you’ll be needing a Kings Rock, which we’ll talk about next.

While a Kings Rock isn’t the easiest to get on short notice, you have a chance at one every single time you spin a Pokestop, get your seventh-day spin streak reward, or as a reward from research tasks and potentially from gifts.

All of these different sources can build up and if you do these things regularly, you’ll probably have a few of them by the time you need them anyway.

This certainly makes the secondary component of evolving Poliwhirl into Politoed in Pokemon Go easier, though the required candy cost remains a bit steep.

Is there anything else to know?

Kings Rock is only used for two evolutions in Pokemon Go, so the only real consideration to make before deciding to use it for Politoed is if you’d prefer using it for Slowking instead.

With some of these evolution items, I’d advise you to check up what else to use it on before committing, but the list really is just two Pokemon in this case.

That’s about everything that needs to be said for how to get Politoed in Pokemon Go, really.
