Pokemon Go: How to defeat Zacian, Weakness and Counters
Zacian recently made its way into Pokemon Go, but are you familiar with the weakness and counters of this legendary Pokemon?
This is a shorthand guide piece designed to inform you what counters exist to defeat Zacian in Pokemon Go, whether you encounter them in raids or PvP, these weaknesses will apply in both.
What is the biggest weakness of Zacian in Pokemon Go?
Poison-type Pokemon make for the best counter to Zacian in Pokemon Go. Your second-best option would be Steel-types, but they don’t do as favourably as Poison-type due to a weakness to Zacians Fire Fang fast attack.
How did we find the most reliable counter to Zacian?
Despite its overall simplicity, the Pokemon series has a very logic-based depth to it, in that every type has its own set of weaknesses and strengths.
This means that in a game like Pokemon Go, where you sometimes even know what Pokemon you’ll be fighting in advance – in content such as Raids – and with Pokemon having fewer potential moves they can use, you can often make a determination as to what type will be the best counter option in battle before the battle even starts.
In the case of battling a pure Fairy type like Zacian, you have a few possible Types that it is known to have a weakness against in the Pokemon series. In Pokemon Go specifically, we can also see what moves it has, and determine which of these types it cannot fight back against.

Zacian, being a Fairy-type, will resist Bug, Dark, Fighting and particularly Dragon-Type Pokemon and their attacks. Zacian is particularly vulnerable to Steel and Poison-Type attacks, but both deal the same damage – so we’ll see what Zacian can do in battle to determine which makes the best choice.
Zacians possible attacks actually hold a lot of variety, with 4 fast and 4 charged attack options. Zacian does have options to use against Steel-Type Pokemon due to having Fire-Fang, but has no effective response to Poison-type attackers.
Weakness and counters Summary
Steel-types are the backup option for this one, while Poison-type Pokemon score a rare victory and come out on top against a legendary Pokemon – Zacian simply doesn’t have any effective counter-attacks against them in Pokemon Go, while Steel is vulnerable to fire fang.
