Pokemon Go: How to defeat Yamask, counters and weakness

Yamask is the Ghost-type Spirit Pokemon who will appear during the 2021 Halloween event, so are you familiar with the counters and weakness?

This mask holding Spirit Pokemon is certainly more durable than you might expect from its appearance, given that it’s resistant to twice as many types as it’s weak to.

What counters Yamask in Pokemon Go?

If you’re familiar with the Pokemon Series, you’re probably aware by now that certain type matchups interact in ways that will influence how much damage you take and can deal in battle, with attacks against a type weakness known as “super effective!” for example. Yamask is a pure Ghost-type Pokemon, which as mentioned above makes for a pretty strong typing.

To be specific, Yamask will resist attacks from Bug and Poison-types, as well as doubly resisting any Fighting and Normal-type attacks. Your counter choices against Yamask in Pokemon Go are limited to either other Ghost-types or Dark-types.

So which of these is better?

Well, the best way to determine that is often by judging a Pokemons moveset, and Yamask isn’t an exception there.

The standard form of Yamask will make use of both a ghost and psychic-type fast attack, as well as employing two more ghost attacks and a Dark-type move in its list of charged attacks.

Ghost-types, Yamask included, are weak to Ghost and Dark-type attacks. This means that using Ghost-type Pokemon as a counter might not work so well, as they’ll take super effective damage from Yamask, just like Yamask would take from them.

Dark-types on the other hand, will resist or completely ignore every single attack that Yamask can use, making them the easy winner.

Yamask Pokemon Type Weakness

Yamask is countered by both Ghost and Dark-types, though Ghost-types have significant weaknesses against other Ghost-type Pokemon which makes using one against Yamask quite risky. Dark-type Pokemon are a much safer bet as they are at least resistant to every attack Yamask is capable of.

If you don’t have access to these types, avoid Normal and Fighting-type attacks, at least.

Anything else to mention?

That’s really it for the weakness and counters of Yamask in Pokemon Go. To summarise, make heavy use of Dark-type Pokemon using Dark-type attacks and you should have a pretty easy time in this matchup.
