Pokemon Go: How to defeat Virizion, weakness and counters

The Grassland Pokemon Virizion is coming to Pokemon Go Raids, so you’ll want to know the counters and weakness of this legendary Pokemon.

Virizion is a Grass/Fighting Dual-type, which is a fairly well-balanced combination, though it has only absolutely huge type weakness which will make for an excellent counter matchup.

What counters Virizion in Pokemon Go?

If you’re familiar with the Pokemon series, you’ll know by now that certain types have either (or both) of a damage advantage or incoming damage reduction in certain matchups, known as super effective and not very effective respectively. Virizion is an interesting but ultimately somewhat vulnerable combination, a Grass/Fighting Dual-type.

Specifically, Virizion is vulnerable to 6 different types, but Flying-types will deal significantly more damage than the rest.

So, to pick out the best counter for Virizion, we might not even have to look that hard – Flying types seem to dominate the list immediately in Pokemon Go whether it be for PvP or Raids. With that said, we’ll take a look through what moves Virizion has in battle just to be sure if it comes out on top.

With that in mind, Virizion has two fast attacks, a Normal and Psychic-type respectively. It also makes use of two Fighting-type charged attacks, a Grass-type move, and finally a Rock-type.

As things stand, Flying-types are vulnerable to that single Rock-type charged attack, but as they resist Fighting-type moves and deal the most damage to Virizion, they will be your best bet. If you need a backup option after Flying-types, your best bet will likely become Fairy-type Pokemon, as they’ll deal increased damage and resist both fighting-type attacks – though they will be dealing less damage than Flying would.

Virizion Pokemon Type Weakness

To summarise, your best bet against Virizion will be Flying-type Pokemon – they’re good against a fair amount of its battle moves, and deal the most damage by far. If you can’t use Flying-types for whatever reason, Fairy or Psychic-Type Pokemon will fare decently well, but ideally you want to make use of Flying-types.

At the very least, make sure to avoid the following types, as Virizion will resist them:

  • Dark
  • Electric
  • Grass
  • Ground
  • Rock
  • Water
