Pokemon Go: How to defeat Sneasel, weakness and counters

Sneasel in the Pokemon anime

Sneasel is a Dark/Ice type, known as the Sharp Claw Pokemon, but do you know its counters and weakness in Pokemon Go?

It boasts a Type combo belonging to only it and its evolved form, Weavile, making it a bit difficult to figure out for more casual players who might rely on re-using known counters for other

What counters Sneasel in Pokemon Go?

If you’re familiar with the Pokemon series, you’ll know by now that certain types have either (or both) of a damage advantage or incoming damage reduction in certain matchups, known as super effective and not very effective respectively. Sneasel is a Dark/Ice-type Pokemon, which makes it quite unique, as this combination is only shared with its evolved form Weavile, as mentioned above.

Unfortunately for both of them, this Typing somewhat backfires on them – Dark and Ice-type share a weakness, and have a fair few each that the other type doesn’t negate, leaving Weavile with quite a lot of counters – to the extent it actually has more bad matchups than good.

We’re spoiled for choice with this one, as Sneasel is countered by Bug, Fairy, Fire, Rock and Steel-types, and even then it has a double weakness to Fighting-types, resulting in taking a huge amount of damage from them in Pokemon Go.

Of course, we’ll also take a look to see what moves Sneasel has, to see if there’s anything else to be aware of here but Fighting-Type is our clear winner for most damage dealt regardless, given it’s the only type with a doubled advantage.

Sneasel actually uses only Dark-type and Ice-type attacks in Pokemon Go, which is a tad unusual but it does mean that all of the counter options provided are good here, as Sneasel has no counter moves to cover its weakness matchups.

To summarise, while Fighting-types will take the crown against Sneasel, Bug, Fairy, Fire, Rock and Steel-types would also perform well regardless. Any types that struggle versus Ice or Dark-type attacks, such as Psychic or Dragon-types, should be avoided in the Sneasel matchup in Pokemon Go.

Anything else to mention?

That’s really it for the weakness and counters of Sneasel in Pokemon Go. Fighting-Type Pokemon take another win for the most damage dealt here, though there are plenty of viable options in this case.
