Pokemon Go: How to defeat Gothorita, weakness and counters

Gothorita is a pure Psychic-type Pokemon from Gen-V, but are you familiar with the weakness and counters of the Manipulate Pokemon in Go?

So how does Gothorita fare in battles, raids, or PVP? What is it weak to, what type of move does it use, and what counters does it have? I’ll be going through all of this shortly, so let’s get right into it.

What counters Gothorita in Pokemon Go?

If you’re familiar with the Pokemon series, you’ll know by now that certain types have either (or both) of a damage advantage or incoming damage reduction in certain matchups, known as super effective and not very effective respectively. Gothorita is a pure Psychic-type Pokemon, which means you probably know what to expect for counters and the like by now, given the number of high profile pure Psychic-types, including the likes of Mewtwo.

Just to make sure everyone knows however; Psychic types have favourable matchups against Fighting and Poison-types, but struggle against Bug, Dark and Ghost-types. As for choosing the main weakness from those to use as a counter against Gothoria, they do all deal the same damage, so the choice isn’t immediately clear.

Of course, we can also take a look to see what moves Gothorita has, to see if we have anything extra information that might help us determine which will be our best bet for a counter in Pokemon Go.

As it turns out, Gothorita has almost exclusively Psychic-type moves, with only one Normal-type as the exception. With this in mind, Dark-types likely take our win here, as they have immunity to Psychic-type attacks. Ghost and Bug-types will still deal increased damage comparable to Dark-types, but Dark simply takes less damage as well.

What is Gothorita weak to?

Dark, Bug and Ghost-types are all viable choices versus Gothorita, but if you want the absolute best choice possible you’ll want to stick to Dark-types given their Psychic resistance makes them the best counter option available. Bug and Ghost will still deal excellent damage, though if you can’t use any of those at the very least avoid Fighting-types, which themselves have a weakness against the Psychic attacks Gothorita relies on in Pokemon Go.

Anything else to mention?
