Pokemon Go: How to defeat Galarian Zigzagoon, weakness and counters

A brief shot of Galarian Zigzagoon in the Pokemon anime

Galarian Zigzagoon will soon be doing a tour of 1* raids as part of the Ultra Unlock P3 event in Pokemon Go, but do you know its weakness?

This shorthand guide is designed to help inform you of the weakness of Galarian Zigzagoon to get you set and ready to beat the Pokemon when it appears in 1* raids during Ultra Unlock part 3 in Pokemon Go.

What is the biggest weakness of Galarian Zigzagoon in Pokemon Go?

Fighting-Type Pokemon end up being the strongest counter to Galarian Zigzagoon, and thus its biggest weakness in Pokemon Go. This is because while Fighting-Types don’t resist any of G. Zigzagoons attacks, they do deal 256% of their usual damage rate against Zigzagoon, which is a huge advantage.

Meanwhile both Bug-Types and Fairy-Types only deal the standard 160% super effective rate, which isn’t exactly weak but certainly doesn’t cut it compared to the damage Fighting-Types will do here.

How did we find the most reliable counter to Galarian Farfetch’d?

As is typical in any Pokemon title, including Go, precisely how strong a Pokemon is and what moves it uses may vary depending on the individual, but there are a few things we can use as a weakness that remains consistent across all of any given species of Pokemon.

The easiest of these to exploit for counter purposes is often the Pokemon’s Type.

Galarian Zigzagoon, unlike the original normal-type Zigzagoon, is actually a dual-Type Pokemon. Instead of a pure Normal-Type, they are a Dark/Normal dual-Type. This is certainly an interesting combination, but it has one absolutely huge weakness in Pokemon Go, unfortunately for Galarian Zigzagoon.

Normally I would use a clear unedited shot of a Pokemon in the anime. In the case of Galarian Zigzagoon, no such shot exists, so we Xygarde 0.7 to thank for this somewhat adjusted freeze frame of the anime.

Galarian Zigzagoon Type Interactions in Pokemon Go

Resistances
  • Dark
  • Psychic
  • Ghost

This is a rare case where there’s a lot of variety in the resistance category. Dark-Type moves here will only deal 62.5% damage compared to the usual, while Psychic-Types will instead deal only 39% damage.

Meanwhile, Ghost-Types deal an absolutely pathetic 24% of their typical damage, and should be avoided no matter what.

Weaknesses
  • Bug
  • Fairy
  • Fighting

Bug-Type and Fairy-Type Pokemon will deal 160% of their default damage to Galarian Zigzagoon, which is a great start point, but Fighting-Types run the show here, dealing a huge 256% of normal damage instead. This makes Fighting-Type a clear winner already, but let’s take a look into the moves Galarian Zigzagoon can use, just to be safe.

What moves can Galarian Zigzagoon use in battle?

Fast Attacks
  • Rock Smash (Fighting)
  • Tackle (Normal)
Charged Attacks
  • Dig (Ground)
  • Grass Knot (Grass)
  • Thunderbolt (Electric)

Bug-Types have an advantage against Ground-Type and Grass-Type attacks, making Dig and Grass Knot less effective against them. Fairy-Types meanwhile resist only the Fighting-Type attack Rock Smash.

Fighting-Types themselves actually have no resistance advantage against any of these types, but given the huge amount of damage they’ll deal against Galarian Zigzagoon, they remain our best option and strongest counter against it.

Weakness and counters Summary

Fighting-Type Pokemon take the lead against Galarian Zigzagoon due to the huge damage advantage they’ll wield against it. Between the other Types, Bug has a small advantage over Fairy, but both are viable choices.
