Pokemon Go: How to defeat Galarian Weezing, weakness & Counters

Galarian Weezing in the Pokemon Anime

Galarian Weezing will soon be appearing in Pokemon Go’s 3* raids as part of Ultra Unlock 3, but do you remember its weakness and counters?

This shorthand guide is designed to help inform you of the weakness of Galarian Weezing to get you set and ready to beat the Pokemon when it appears in 3* raids during Ultra Unlock part 3 in Pokemon Go.

What is the biggest weakness of Galarian Weezing in Pokemon Go?

In summary, the best matchup against Galarian Weezing belongs to Steel-Type Pokemon, as they resist almost all possible attacks or are otherwise totally immune. The only issue is a Fire-Type attack, Overheat, that Galarian Weezing can use.

If you don’t feel like that risk, then Ground-Types have an all-around favourable matchup with no drawbacks, but fewer strengths. Psychics perform similarly, though slightly worse than Ground.

How did we find the most reliable counter to Galarian Weezing?

As is typical in any Pokemon title, including Go, precisely how strong a Pokemon is and what moves it uses may vary depending on the individual, but there are a few things we can use as a weakness that remains consistent across all of any given species of Pokemon.

The easiest of these to exploit for counter purposes is often the Pokemon’s Type.

Galarian Weezing is an unusual combination, a Poison/Fairy dual-type. This gives this odd smokestack of poisonous gas a serious edge in some matchups you’d never see coming, but also a weakness or two we can go for in Pokemon Go.

Galarian Weezing Type interactions in Pokemon Go

Resistances
  • Dark
  • Fairy
  • Grass
  • Bug
  • Dragon
  • Fighting

Dark, Fairy and Grass-Types will all deal the typical reduced rate of 62.5% of their usual damage, but usually strong Types such as Dragon and Fighting-Types get absolutely demolished here, reduced to a mere 39% of their typical damage.

The same applies to Bug-Types, but it’s quite hard to describe them as “strong” in most Pokemon titles.

Weaknesses
  • Ground
  • Psychic
  • Steel

Meanwhile, Ground, Psychic and Steel-Types are our counter options, all dealing damage enhanced to a rate of 160% of their usual.

Which of these is the biggest weakness of Galarian Weezing in Pokemon Go however, we need to check out the move pool to determine.

What moves can Galarian Weezing use in battle?

Fast Attacks

Tackle. Literally, it just has Tackle. Tackle is Normal-type as a reminder, so nothing to worry about here.

Charged Attacks
  • Hyper Beam (Normal)
  • Overheat (Fire)
  • Play Rough (Fairy)
  • Sludge (Poison)

Ground-Types give us a strong opening Counter option, with resistance to Poison attacks and no weaknesses that Weezing can potentially abuse.

Psychic-Types haven’t got that impressive a matchup for once with this one, with no interactions beyond the enhanced damage, a safe but boring choice, and worse than Ground. Steel-Types are another solid option, immune to Poison attacks, and resisting both Fairy and Normal-Type ones. The only issue with steel types is their weakness to Fire, which may bite you if you come up against Overheat.

Weakness and counters Summary

Steel-Types are the best overall choice but also somewhat risky due to the Type-Matchup into Overheat. Ground-Types will perform a bit less favourably overall but have no weakness to note.

Psychic Types meanwhile will simply perform well, but worse than either of these.
