Bronzor has been surprisingly popular in Pokemon Go, but what is the weakness of the bronze Pokemon? How do you counter it in battle?

Bronzor has had breakout success in a few areas of Pokemon Go PvP, and occasionally does the rounds of Raids throughout the world, so it seemed like a good idea to make sure everyone was aware of its possible weakness targets to exploit and properly counter it.

What is the weakness and counter of Bronzor in Pokemon Go?

In short, your best bet here is a Dark-Type Pokemon, as they have the most favourable overall matchup, negating two of Bronzors attacks from a total of 6, and resisting a third, though Fire-Types come in a close second place with resistance to Steel-Types giving them a good match into two of Bronzors attacks.

Ground-Types make a solid backup counter plan to exploit Bronzors weakness in Pokemon Go, though they have no additional advantages. Ghost-Types come in last here, as a weakness to Dark-Types makes them very vulnerable to Payback.

How did we find the most reliable counter?

As is typical in any Pokemon title, including Go, precisely how strong a Pokemon is and what moves it uses may vary depending on the individual Pokemon in question, but there are a few things that remain consistent across all of any given species of Pokemon.

The easiest of these factors to exploit in battle is often the Pokemon’s Type.

Bronzor is a Steel/Psychic Dual-Type, which is actually a very strong combination in Pokemon Go it seems, with a resistance list reaching the double digits in total and only 4 different weakness options to attack.

Bronzor Type Interactions in Pokemon Go

Resistances
  • Dragon
  • Fairy
  • Flying
  • Grass
  • Ice
  • Normal
  • Rock
  • Steel
  • Poison
  • Psychic

It seems that Bronzor didn’t earn its PvP popularity for nothing, the resistance list in size alone compares favourably to a significant number of Legendary Pokemon. And it’s doubly bad for Poison and Psychic-Types, who deal a measly 39% damage as opposed to the single-resisted Types dealing 62.5% of their usual damage.

Weaknesses
  • Dark
  • Fire
  • Ghost
  • Ground

The Bronze Pokemon didn’t even give us a double weakness in Pokemon Go to make up for it, very tough little guy.

So, all of these Types deal 160% of their usual damage to Bronzor, which is a start. But which of these is the best here?

What moves does Bronzor use in battle?

Fast Attacks
  • Confusion (Psychic)
  • Tackle (Normal)
Charged Attacks
  • Gyro Ball (Steel)
  • Heavy Slam (Steel)
  • Payback (Dark)
  • Psyshock (Psychic)

Ground-Types come out of this matchup pretty safely, dealing Super-Effective damage against Bronzor while suffering no extra damage from any of its counterattacks in Pokemon Go. Of course, they also gain no additional advantages, such as resisted attack types.

Ghost-Types might seem promising at first by being immune to Normal-Type attacks, but is resisting Tackle really that big of a deal? In any case, Ghost-Types will also suffer Super-Effective counterattacks from Bronzor in the form of the Dark-Type move Payback, so there’s quite a bit of risk involved with this choice for that limited payoff.

This leaves Fire-Types and Dark-Types till last, and they happen to be our frontrunners.

Fire-Types find a favourable matchup into Steel-Type moves on top of being Super-Effective, making them a respectable choice. Dark-Types take the win here however, with Super-Effective damage, immunity to Psychic attacks, and a bonus resistance to Payback, which significantly weakens half of Bronzors attack options.

Bronzor weakness and counters Summary

In short, your best bet here is a Dark-Type Pokemon, as they have the most favourable overall matchup, negating or weakening half of Bronzors attacks in total, though Fire-Types come in a close second.

If neither of those are suitable Types for you to make use of, Ground-Types still have a great matchup here, dealing reliable Super-Effective damage without added risk – Ghost types should perhaps be avoided due to risks of being hit by Payback though.

That’s about everything for this guide about the weakness and best counter of Bronzor in Pokemon Go, best of luck Trainer!
