Pokemon Go: How to defeat Granbull, weakness & counters

Granbull is a surprisingly strong Fairy-Type brawler Pokemon in Pokemon Go, but what is it’s weakness? What counters can you use against it?

This short guide is designed to inform you enough about Granbull and any possible weakness you can target or counter that you can employ so that you know how to defeat the scrappy Fairy Pokemon.

What is the weakness of Granbull in Pokemon Go?

As is typical in any Pokemon title, including Pokemon Go, precisely how strong a Pokemon is and what moves it uses may vary depending on the individual, but there are a few things that remain consistent across all versions of it.

As is true with many other Pokemon, Type is a simple and effective weakness to focus on while fighting Granbull.

Granbull is a pure Fairy-Type, giving it a huge advantage versus the likes of Dragon-Types, as well as a few other strengths, plus two possible counter styles that can be exploited as a weakness.

Granbull has a specific weakness to Poison and Steel-Type moves in Pokemon Go. Meanwhile, Bug, Dark, Fighting and particularly Dragon-Type attacks should be avoided due to their Types being resisted.

In summary, while fighting a Granbull, avoid Dragon-Type at all times, and make use of Poison or Steel-Type attacks.
Dragon-type attacks will hit a measly 39% of their original damage, while Poison and Steel will deal a total of 160% damage instead, making them the best options.

What moves can Granbull use in battle?

Sometimes it can be worth considering what your opponent can hit you with. This helps better plan out your battle and find a more ideal Pokemon to exploit any potential weakness Granbull might have whilst avoiding strengths.

Granbull has six possible attacks in total, evenly split between Fast and Charged styles. At least one of these is very much a concern if you’re intending to employ Steel-Type Pokemon to counter Granbull and hit one of its only possible weaknesses.

Fast Attacks
  • Bite (Dark)
  • Charm (Fairy)
  • Snarl (Dark)
Charged Attacks
  • Close Combat (Fighting)
  • Crunch (Dark)
  • Play Rough (Fairy)

While Dark and Fairy-Type moves give neither Poison nor Steel-Types any concerns, Close Combat, a Fighting-Type move can do some serious damage to Steel-Types due to their Type weakness to Fighting. This means that the ideal counter to Granbull is to make use of a Poison-Type Pokemon.

Is there anything to know about countering Granbull in Pokemon Go?

Nope, not really. In summary, to counter Granbull ideally you want a strong Poison-Type Pokemon. Steel-Types also make a strong option, but the charged attack Close Combat means that Granbull has one strong counter attack to Steel-Types, making Poison overall a much safer choice.
