Chansey is one of the most popular Gym defenders, and is often found doing precisely that in Pokemon Go Gyms, but what is its main weakness?

This article is designed to inform you enough about Chansey and its biggest weakness so that you know how to defeat the incredibly durable egg Pokemon.

What is the biggest weakness of Chansey in Pokemon Go?

As is typical in any Pokemon title, including Go, precisely how strong a Pokemon is and what moves it uses may vary depending on the individual, but there are a few things that remain consistent across all of any given species of Pokemon.

The easiest of these to exploit is often Type.

Chansey is a Normal-Type Pokemon. If you’re familiar with other Normal-Types such as Snorlax, you’ll know what this means. Normal-Types are very annoying to counter in a way that enhances your own damage, though luckily they don’t really have any Type advantages either.

Chansey, like other Normal-Types, takes increased damage from Fighting-Type attacks, at a 160% damage modifier, though it is also significantly resistant to Ghost-Type attacks, taking only 39% damage from those.

While this doesn’t provide us with a whole lot of options, it does mean that you can use Fighting-type moves against Chansey for a significant advantage, whether you’re fighting a Chansey in Raids or in a Gym battle. In short, the main weakness of Chansey in Pokemon Go is Fighting-type attacks.

What moves can Chansey use in battle?

Sometimes it’s worth considering what your opponent can hit you with, to try to pick a type that has an advantage against what damage they will do. Chansey only has access to three different types of attack, so this can be worth the extra work.

Fast Attacks
  • Pound (Normal)
  • Zen Headbutt (Psychic)
Charged Attacks
  • Dazzling Gleam (Fairy)
  • Hyper Beam (Normal)
  • Psychic (Psychic)
  • Psybeam (Psychic)

This means we have to be a bit careful with Fighting-Types, as Chansey has access to Psychic-Type moves that can be a real nightmare for the likes of a Machamp. Unfortunately, it’s also the only Weakness Chansey has to exploit, so we don’t have a lot of choice in the matter.

Is there anything else?

Nope, outside of being aware that Chansey can be packing Psychic-Type moves that can be dangerous for your Fighting-Types, there’s not a whole lot extra to know.

Of course, if you have a Pokemon that can pull out Fighting-Type moves while being a different type, that’s not entirely an issue to you.
