Pokemon Go: Anniversary Event Challenge Guide 2022

With Pokemon Go entering its 6th year of gameplay, Niantic has released a new free event for trainers to complete, the Pokemon Go Anniversary Event Research 2022.

Beginning July 6, 2022, 10:00 am local time, and ending July 12, 2022, 8:00 pm local time, trainers are to be given limited time research to complete, with reward items, XP, and maybe even a few surprises along the way. In total there are 6 steps to complete, with each bringing a whole host of rewards including, items, XP, and a few surprise Pokemon along the way.

Niantic has also announced that several starter Pokemon will be able to learn their special community day move if evolved during this time. And of course, it wouldn’t be any event without a Pikachu in a costume! Let’s take a look at all the challenge requirements and rewards available.

Pokemon Go Anniversary Event Timed Research Tasks

For the limited-time research, trainers can complete a series of 6 challenges to unlock all the rewards. Let us explore the challenges and their rewards.

Part 1

  • Catch 15 Pokemon – 15 x Poke Ball
  • Catch 5 different species of Pokemon – 10 x Great Ball
  • Make 5 Nice Throws – 5 x Ultra Ball
  • Make 3 Great Throws – 500 XP
  • Make 5 Curveball Throws – Foongus Encounter
  • Use 10 Berries to help catch Pokemon – 500 x Stardust

Upon completion, players will be rewarded with a Cake Costume Pikachu encounter and 1 x Poffin

Part 2

  • Play with your buddy – 5 x Razz Berry
  • Give your buddy a treat – 5 x Nanab Berry
  • Take a snapshot of your buddy – 5 x Pinap Berry
  • Battle another Trainer with your Buddy Pokemon while it’s adventuring with you – 500 XP
  • Earn 5 hearts with your buddy – Eevee Encounter
  • Earn a Candy exploring with your buddy – 500 x Stardust

Upon completion of the challenges above, players will be rewarded with a Party Hat Charmander encounter and 2500 Stardust

Part 3

  • Take 5 snapshots of wild Pokemon – 5 x Potion
  • Take a snapshot of Charmander – 5 x Revive
  • Take a snapshot of your buddy – 5 x Poke Ball
  • Take a snapshot of 5 different Pokemon – 500 XP
  • Take a snapshot of a Normal-type Pokemon – Meowth Encounter
  • Take snapshots of 3 different wild Fire, Water, or Grass-type Pokemon – 500 x Stardust

Upon completion, players will be rewarded with a Pansear encounter and 1 x Unova Stone

Part 4

  • Spin 5 Pokestops or Gyms – 20 x Poke Ball
  • Hatch an Egg – 3 x Golden Razz Berry
  • Walk 2km – 3 x Silver Pinap Berry
  • Earn a Candy exploring with your buddy – 500 XP
  • Complete 5 Field research tasks – 3 x Rare Candy
  • Battle in a gym 3 times – 500 x Stardust

Upon completion, players will be rewarded with a Gible encounter, and 1 x Premium Battle Pass

Part 5

  • Send 5 Gifts to friends – 20 x Super Potion
  • Send 5 Gifts to friends and add a sticker to each – 35 x Revive
  • Transfer 15 Pokemon – 500 XP
  • Battle in 2 raids – 1 x Fast TM
  • Win a level 1 or higher raid – 1 x Charge TM
  • Power up Pokemon 10 times – 500 x Stardust

Upon completion, players will be rewarded with a Snorlax encounter and 1 x Rocket Radar

Part 6

  • Claim Reward – 1000 XP
  • Claim Reward – 1000 XP
  • Claim Reward – 1000 XP
  • Claim Reward – 1000 XP
  • Claim Reward – 1000 XP
  • Claim Reward – 1000 XP

Upon claiming the XP rewards, players will be granted a Wash Rotom encounter, 2500 XP, and 2500 Stardust.

Pokemon Go 6th Anniversary event Field Research tasks

As well as the timed research event, for the duration of the event, trainers will also be able to collect exclusive field research tasks. Let’s take a look at all of the available field research tasks and their rewards:

  • Make 6 Nice Throws – x25 Venusaur Mega Energy, x25 Charizard Mega Energy, and x25 Blastoise Mega Energy
  • Take 6 snapshots of wild Pokémon  – Rowlet, Litten, or Popplio encounter
  • Send 6 gifts and add a sticker to each – Chespin, Fennekin, or Froakie encounter
  • Catch 6 Pokémon – x10 Poké Balls, x5 Great Balls, and x2 Ultra Balls
  • Spin 6 PokéStops or Gyms  – Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle encounter
  • Use 6 Berries to help catch Pokémon – Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile encounter
  • Catch 6 different species of Pokémon – Treecko, Torchic, or Mudkip encounter
  • Earn 6 hearts with your Buddy – Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup encounter
  • Make 6 Curveball Throws – Snivy, Tepig, or Oshawott encounter
