Pokemon Go Players on Reddit have reported issues with the Make a new friend research task in Pokemon Go not completing or updating progress even when multiple new friends have been added. It does seem that some players simply cannot complete this task when it appears as part of quest chains such as Misunderstood Mischief.

If you are unfortunate enough to be experiencing this bug in Pokemon Go, it’s likely that no matter how many friends you add, it won’t fix the issue and complete the quest for you. That means even adding plenty of people from PokemonGoFriends won’t fix your problem.

Instead, your best bet is to contact Niantic support and get them to resolve it for you, as a few Reddit users in our thread earlier noted as their solution. You can find Niantic’s advice on how to access player support here. At least one of which mentioned it takes about a day for Niantic to resolve the issue for you and manually check the quest as completed; while that is a bit of a delay, it certainly beats being stuck on the quest objective forever if you want the rewards locked behind it.
