Pokemon Go Shiny Meltan Guide 2023 – How to encounter the incredibly rare Pokemon

Pokemon Go trainers worldwide are known for their love of Shiny Pokemon. These rare Pokemon appear at random intervals, with players unable to predict when and where they will spawn, and one of those rarest of all, is Shiny Meltan.

Unlike all the others, Shiny Meltan can not be caught in the conventional way. Introduced as part of the Pokemon Go and Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu, which are available on the Nintendo Switch, Meltan caused quite a stir with its big abilities from such a tiny Pokemon.

Let’s find out everything we need to know about how to encounter the incredibly unique Shiny Meltan!

Who is Meltan?

Meltan, a Steel-type Mythical Pokemon, introduced in Generation VII, in Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!, Meltan has the ability to evolve into the mighty Melmetal by using a whopping 400 Meltan Candies. Meltan cannot be evolved in any other games.

With his body made of liquid metal, Meltan has the ability to corrode any metal, and absorb it into its own body, in Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! In Pokemon Sword, it dissolves and eats metal, circulating it within itself, to generate its own energy. In Pokemon Shield, Meltans live in groups, but if necessary, the strongest Meltan will absorb all of the other Meltans to evolve. Talk about survival of the fittest!

How to catch a Meltan

Unlike other Pokemon, the Mythical Meltan, and Shiny Meltan, can only be caught using a special in-game item, or specific in-game events.

For trainers to catch Meltan, players must first obtain a Mystery Box. Mystery boxes work in a similar way to incense, and once activated, players will be able to catch the Meltan as they spawn. Once a Mystery Box is used, players have to wait a whole 3 days to be able to use it again. However, the box is yours to keep, meaning players only ever need to store 1 box in their item bag.

Pokemon Home is the easiest way for players to earn a Mystery Box. Pokemon Home connects your accounts via your Nintendo Switch Log-in and is available to download in the Android and Apple App Store.

Once downloaded, log into Pokemon Home using your Nintendo Switch Log in, and ensure your Pokemon Go account is also linked to your Nintendo Switch account.

You can then return to your settings menu within Pokemon Go, and link to Pokemon Home, located towards the bottom of the menu.

Once these steps are complete, trainers can transfer Pokemon from Pokemon Go, to be stored in Pokemon Home. The free version enables up to 30 Pokemon to be relocated, however, you can’t send Pokemon the other way, so it is worth ensuring you’re not going to miss the Pokemon too much!

When a Pokemon has been transferred out of Pokemon, log into Pokemon Home to receive the Pokemon. Upon completion, players are then rewarded with a Mystery Box within their storage items in Pokemon Go. The Mystery Box is only active for 30 minutes at a time, so be ready to hunt down those Meltan fast!

For a Mystery Box to be activated again, trainers must then send another Pokemon to Pokemon Home from Pokemon Go. This action can be completed every 3 days. And of course, if using those Pinap Berries to catch a Meltan, you will quickly earn the 400 candies required to evolve Meltan into the beast that is Melmetal.

How to catch a Shiny Meltan

Catching a Shiny Meltan is a little different. Unlike regular Pokemon, Meltan can only appear as a Shiny Pokemon during special times, which are announced by Niantic, meaning players need to regularly check the news for information.

It is also worth noting when these exclusive times are so that Mystery Boxes are ready to be activated due to the 3-day wait time.

Shiny Meltan was last available during the Pokemon Go TCG Crossover event, until June 30, 2022, with no further release dates known at present. We will however update this Shiny Meltan guide, as and when we receive any information, so be sure to stay tuned in, here at The Click
