persona switch announcement

For years, Persona fans have been asking for the popular JRPG series to make its way to Nintendo consoles. Finally, that prayer has been answered with Persona Switch ports officially announced during the June 28th, 2022 Nintendo Direct focusing on third-party titles. This follows a string of announcements that put Persona 3, 4, and 5 on all modern gaming platforms except Nintendo Switch… until now. Here’s everything to know about the coming ports!

What games are coming to Switch?

Considering the number of games and enhanced editions within the Persona franchise, it is no surprise that it couldn’t be kept totally simple when bringing the series to modern platforms. The versions of the titles coming to PS5, Xbox Series X, Switch, and PC are Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal. These are the exact versions of the game previously revealed to be coming to Xbox and Gamepass before subsequently being shown to come to Playstation platforms and Steam.

Considering that Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal are generally considered the definitive ways to play their respective entries, this certainly comes as good news. More perplexing is the choice of Persona 3 Portable, though it may have been difficult to choose a version when many claim Portable is the best version due to general gameplay changes and fixes while others claim FES is the definitive edition due to the canonical story continuing into a new playable campaign: The Answer. I’ve wanted to get into this trilogy for a long time, and it looks like I have more options than I could hope for now!

Persona Switch ports? When are they coming?

Persona 5 Royal will be coming to Nintendo Switch on October 21st, 2022, aligning with its release on Xbox, PS5, and PC. As shown in the reveal trailer, Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden will be making their way to the hybrid console in the near future, though no specific date has been given as of yet. Considering Persona 4 has made its way to Steam and these are fairly old titles in the year 2022, I’d be surprised if Persona 3 and 4 don’t make their way to all these platforms by mid-2023.

These Persona Switch ports bring a sigh of relief to many who had been excited by Joker’s representation in Super Smash Bros yet had no way to play the Persona series until now. With the possible exception of Persona 3, these Persona Switch ports are the best versions of these titles finally playable on a Nintendo platform, as well as Persona 5’s portable debut!
