Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns: Release date, Price, Kombat Pack 2, Fighters and more
Netherealm Studios is wasting no time when it comes to bringing the next set of Fighters to Mortal Kombat 1. Following the release of Takahashi Takeda on July 23rd, Kombat Pack 2 has already been announced along with a new story expansion titled Khaos Reigns.
The upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns DLC will bring 6 new Fighters and a new story to the game, building upon the rebooted timeline and the ever-expanding roster, which recently saw 6 more Fighters come to Mortal Kombat 1 over the past year.
Here is everything you need to know about Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns.
Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns Release Date
It has been announced that the Year 2 DLC, titled Khaos Reigns, will be released on September 24th, 2024 on PC via Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch.
Six New Fighters Are Coming To Mortal Kombat 1 In Kombat Pack 2
Khaos Reigns will bring with it Kombat Pack 2, which will feature 6 new Fighters. Three of these will be available on release day and three more will come at a future date.
The cyber ninjas Cyrax and Sektor will be joined by Noob Saibot as the 3 original characters that will be included and available on September 24th.
Joining them will be 3 guest characters, Ghostface from the Scream franchise, Conan portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger, as well as T-1000 from Terminator 2, with Robert Patrick reprising his role for the game. It is unclear whether Schwarzenegger will be voicing Conan, although he did provide his likeness for Conan. His Terminator character in Mortal Kombat 11 was voiced by Chris Cox.
Sektor and Cyrax Are Female, and I’m OK With It
Since the Khaos Reigns trailer was first released, there has been some controversy surrounding the decision to turn the cyber ninjas Sektor and Cyrax into female characters rather than the male ninjas they have been portrayed as since the duo made their first appearance in Mortal Kombat 3.
While slightly jarring at first, I’ve got to say I think it is a pretty good decision that has no negatives. I kind of like the more slender appearance of them, and they functionally play as expected from what we’ve seen of the gameplay so far. It is unclear whether their Kameo counterparts will have their appearances altered as both cyber ninjas are the male versions, perhaps there are both male and female versions of the characters in this universe?
Some players did say on social media that a possible reason could be because there aren’t enough female characters in the game, but that does also beg the question as to why not bypass guest characters and add some iconic female characters such as Jade, Sonya, Frost, or Khameleon to the main roster.
Khaos Reigns Will Also Feature A Story Expansion Similar To Aftermath From Mortal Kombat 11
Like Mortal Kombat 11, Khaos Reigns will bring with it a new story expansion, building upon the conclusion of the events of the main Mortal Kombat 1. This new story expansion has the tagline “His Era of Peace was never meant to last,” referring to Liu Kang as the Fire God.
Recent leaks have suggested that the story will revolve around 2 timelines, one controlled by Havik and the current timeline that is seen in-game, with the two clashing. This will lead to a face-off between warriors from each timeline before culminating in Liu Kang and Havik doing battle once and for all.
