Twitch Mutes Live Metallica Performance To Avoid DCMA

Metallica James Kirk Lars Robert

If you could see us now, we at The Click are all collectively facepalming at this. Twitch had to mute their own livestream to avoid their own DMCA rules, we’re not even joking.

During a performance by Metallica during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2021, the performance was unexpectedly muted and copyright free lo-fi music was dubbed over the stream by Twitch to avoid the stream being taken down.

In recent months we have seen a crack down on streamers playing copyrighted music during streams due to pressure from the government. Twitch can be sued if a streamer breaks this rule, whether it would actually happen remains to be seen.

But, you would assume that, since Metallica now own their back catalogue, they would give permission for their music being played during the stream. This was also potentially a reason why Blizzard hired Metallica so they could avoid this legal hassle.

Twitch, you F’d up big time.

Diablo 2 Being Remade By Vicarious Visions

With the recent news that Vicarious Visions has been absorbed by Blizzard Entertainment, there have now been reports stirred up that the studio is now set to develop a remake of Diablo 2.

The news about a remake of Diablo 2 isn’t actually news at all as Blizzard’s Team 1 was originally set to develop the game up until 2020. Blizzard’s Team 1 had previously developed the unfortunate flop, Warcraft III: Reforged – a remaster of the original Warcraft 3.

This remaster was not received well and Blizzard has since decided to pull the remaster from Team 1 and ended up putting the team behind Diablo IV in charge of the project. Vicarious Visions is now also said to be working on the Diablo 2 remake that has been known as Diablo II: Resurrected.
