The remaster of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 will be coming to next-gen consoles, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, as well as making its way to the Nintendo Switch.

This comes not too long after Nintendo of America and Tony Hawk had an interaction on Twitter, hinting at the possibility of the game coming to Switch.

I remember thinking yesterday how great it would be to be able to play Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 in handheld mode, and luckily that will now be able to happen!

As for release dates, the game will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on March 26, while it is only stated that the game will be coming to Switch in 2021, so we are unsure of the exact date.

In terms of whether or not you really want that nostalgia trip, the Switch version and the original Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions will be the most likely to remind you of the old days when the game first came out on PlayStation and the Nintendo 64.

This is because the game will be released on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X with improved resolution and FPS. You will be able to play Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 at 1080p with 120 FPS, or 4k with 60 FPS, along with spatial audio.

I am a big fan of playing some of my old favorites as they were originally made, so I will most likely pick up the Switch version, but there’s something incredible about getting to play an old PlayStation favorite with insanely updated graphics as if it were an entirely new game on its own.

Keep in mind, though, there are some things you will need to follow if you already own the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 version and you would like to upgrade. Below are some of the upgrade notes, according to Activision:

  • If you own the Digital Deluxe Edition of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 on either Xbox One or PlayStation 4, you will be able to upgrade at no additional cost through the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store. Those in Japan will need to pay 100 yen for the upgrade, though.
  • If you own the Standard Digital Edition, you will be required to pay an additional $10 to upgrade to the Cross-Gen Deluxe Bundle, which will give you access to the Digital Deluxe Edition content.
  • If you own the physical version of the PlayStation 4 Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2, you will be able to upgrade to to the PlayStation 5 version, but you will need to own the PlayStation 5 with the disc drive.
  • If you own the physical version on Xbox One, you will unfortunately not be able to upgrade to the Xbox Series X version.

With that being said, upgrading to the next-gen versions will certainly give you a boost in quality and is worth the extra $10 or full upgrade for those on the physical Xbox One version, if you are really wanting those upscaled graphics. Otherwise, you can wait for the Nintendo Switch version and have just as much fun, especially in handheld mode!
