Netflix drops new official ‘Tekken: Bloodline’ trailer, reveals release date
More than a year since Tekken 7 released its last DLC character, Lidia Sobieska, fans of the popular fighting game franchise finally have something to look forward to this summer. The fighting game’s debut Netflix anime series adaptation had its trailer dropped and release date revealed.
While a teaser was released earlier this year for Tekken: Bloodline, it mainly focused on Jin Kazama and didn’t include a release date.
Now, the new official trailer shows fans when they can expect to watch the anime series while also giving them an idea of which characters will be making an appearance.
When is Tekken: Bloodline coming to Netflix?
As seen in the trailer, the new anime series will be coming to Netflix next month, August 18. As for its story, it appears that the series is based on Tekken 3 where Jun Kazama is seen living a quiet life in Yakushima with her young son, Jin Kazama, not until the former was presumably killed by Ogre.
Because of this lore, Jun Kazama only appeared in Tekken 2 which was her first and only canonical appearance to date. Her appearance in the series is, therefore, a thrill for fans who have been wanting her to be playable again in the canonical games.
Which characters will be in the new series?
Apart from Jun, Jin, Ogre, and the other expected characters such as Heihachi and Kazuya, the trailer reveals some fan favorites who will be making an appearance in the series. These include King, Feng Wei, Leroy Smith, Paul Phoenix, Julia Chang, Nina Williams, Ling Xiaoyu, and Hwoarang. Interestingly, Feng Wei and Leroy Smith are in the series, considering that they haven’t made their debut in the games until the fifth and seventh installments, respectively.
Lastly, it is notable that the characters’ moves appear to have remained faithful to those in the game, something that fans haven’t seen in previous adaptations.
Having been around the gaming scene since 1994, Tekken is undeniably one of the most popular fighting games ever. However, the franchise hasn’t been positively popular outside of its video games. It can be recalled that a live-action adaptation in 2009 was not received well by fans. Therefore, this new series has a lot to prove.
