Following a week-long countdown that had many fans speculating as to what game was going to be announced, whether it was Resident Evil, Street Fighter, or something different entirely. But, it turned out that the countdown was for the official announcement of the upcoming Street Fighter 6.

The countdown officially ended at 12:40 am EST/5:40 am GMT, which is a very unusual time for a game announcement, but once it did the countdown URL redirected to the official Street Fighter 6 website, and a reveal trailer was released.

In the trailer we see Ryu and Ken square off against each other, with the trailer ending when a blow is landed…very dramatic stuff. Ryu looks like his usual self, although he is sporting a beard which looks to be his new default appearance. Ken looks very different than what we’re used to seeing, and it wasn’t clear which character it actually was until the camera shows that his glove says USA on them.

Ryu and Ken both look more realistic than they did in Street Fighter 4 and 5, with both games opting for a more cartoon art style, whereas this new style could be likened more to the EX series.

No other information was given, apart from fans can expect to hear more news in the Summer of 2022. As of right now, it is unknown what platforms Street Fighter 6 will launch on. Street Fighter V was released exclusively on PS4 and PC, completely bypassing any Xbox console, so it is possible that could happen again.

But, with the recent studio acquisitions by both Sony and Microsoft, both giants have been playing ball with each other and allowing some titles to still be released on their competitor’s platforms, so it is possible that we could see fewer exclusivity deals in order to not damage the relationship with each other.
