Even before its release, Stray had already gained attention and had been considered one of the most anticipated video games this year. The adventure game was released in July and definitely did not disappoint, as it currently holds a Metascore of 83 on Metacritic.

Recently, a fanmade video has been created to reimagine the popular indie title as a 1990s Nintendo Game Boy game. This demake video was released by Youtube Channel 64 Bits, a channel dedicated to creating animated videogame parodies.

With its remarkable attention to detail both about the game and how the original Game Boy animation looks, the video can easily give off a sense of nostalgia to fans, as if Stray had actually been released in the 1990s.

What’s in the fanmade demake animation of Stray?

Just like the actual title, the fanmade demake animation starts off with the main cat character’s separation from its clowder. It can be recalled from the actual game that this cat got separated from the others when a pipe they were walking on collapsed.

After this, the video shows the cat fleeing from the antagonistic mutant bacteria called Zurks until it gets to meet B-12. The video ends just as the cat enters the dystopian city, where robots made a society for themselves.

As mentioned, the demake doesn’t only depict the original game’s story well, it has also been presented perfectly so that it could pass as an actual original Nintendo Game Boy title. From the greenish 8-bit graphics that the console was known for to its 2D sidescrolling mechanic, those who don’t know this is fanmade would easily think of Stray as an actual retro game.
