Splatoon 3 x Pokémon collab happening in the next Splatfest

Bringing together two of their currently most popular franchises, the next Splatfest happening in November combines Splatoon 3 x Pokémon to make players answer one of the oldest questions in their history: Fire, Water or Grass? Choose your favorite starter and fight for it!

Splatfests are traditions in Splatoon, being special festivals where players pick a team to represent in battles against their so-called rivals. While the first two instalments had up to two teams to choose from, Splatoon 3 decided to put a new option inside the box, making it a 3-way battle between the teams.

The event happens over the span of days, in which each team does its best to sit on the 1st place throne in the end. Always with new themes to choose from in every edition, we’re now having an all-out Pokémon battle in Splatsville. Gotta splat’em all!

Splatoon 3 x Pokémon information and prizes

The Splatoon 3 x Pokémon special Splatfest will be held from 11/11 at 4 pm PT to 11/13 at 4 pm PT, exactly a weekend prior to the official release of the new Generation 9 titles Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.

And as such, this event couldn’t have a different theme. In Splatfests, players get exclusive cosmetics to represent their chosen teams. As such, we’ll have t-shirts with the silhouette of the three new starters: Fuecoco, Quaxly and Sprigatito, respectively, for teams Fire, Water and Grass.

Nintendo also announced that Splatsville will be themed accordingly to the festival, so expect to see some more Pokémon-themed decorations around the block.

This is not the first time Splatoon brings those exotic creatures to their game. Splatfests in the very first Splatoon title were also held with the same theme, focusing on the first titles having Team Pokémon Red vs. Team Pokémon Blue, in which Blue took the prize by showing how it was clearly the superior version (at least in Splatoon).

The downside for the announcement of the Splatoon 3 x Pokémon collab is that it probably means we won’t be receiving a Halloween-themed Splatfest this year, as there have been no mentions of plans for it to happen. Also, this is their next scheduled Splatfest, which means there won’t be any other one held in October.

The most recent Splatoon was the first officially held in the full game. The question was, “what would you bring to a deserted island?” with the possible answers/teams being Gear, Grub or Fun.

Another Splatfest held in the Splatoon 3 Splatfest World Premiere free demo was held back in August, with the options being Rock, Paper and Scissors. Coincidently, both winners were the teams chosen by the host, Shiver.

The collab is another way to promote the upcoming new games from the franchise. After the new trailer exhibited yesterday during the Nintendo Direct, we got to see many of the new features these new titles will bring to us.

Many new creatures were revealed, such as the uncanny Farigiraf, the new Paldea-exclusive evolution for Girafarig. But even after learning how to use its own tail as a hood, the Pokémon continues to be a Normal/Psychic type.

But none of them, aside from the already revealed starters, were announced to be present in this new collab event between Splatoon 3 x Pokémon. While we wait for their final evolutions to be announced, why not decide which of them can splat better?

Splatoon 3 is available for Nintendo Switch, while Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be available on November 18, also exclusively for the console.
