Speedrunners are beating Elden Ring without leveling up

Having a reputation for being extremely challenging, saying that anyone can beat any FromSoftware’s Souls games without leveling up will certainly raise eyebrows.

But recently, the newly released FromSoftware game Elden Ring was put to the test by challenge runners Ongbal and Lobos Jr

And the results will shock any Elden Ring players whose characters must have died despite spending countless hours or days grinding in the sensational role-playing game.

Surprisingly, Ongbal and Lobos Jr were able to progress deep into Elden Ring at rune level one, without leveling up.

Using mostly the Wretch class, which is the only class that starts at level one, and the default club altered with the “cold” infusion for bonus frostbite damage, they weren’t just walking or running around. They even defeated some of the game’s notably toughest bosses like Malenia or the Godskin Duo.

A prominent personality in the Souls challenge run community for years, Lobos Jr has experimented with numerous weapons in his level one run. But as for the extremely hard boss Melania, the Misericorde thrusting sword did the trick for him.

Moreover, while most may try this challenge using the dodge-and-attack technique, Ongbal and Lobos Jr both take advantage of the Buckler shield’s parry window to deal critical strikes.

Prior to this, YouTuber Iron Pineapple also did a guide for the level one run. However, since the 1.03 patch, his strategies can no longer be pulled off.
