Sony PlayStation State of Play June 2022: Every announcement, new trailers, release dates

Sony’s latest State of Play event is here, with the PlayStation developers showcasing 30 minutes of brand new trailers and announcements for upcoming PS5 and PSVR2 games.

During the State of Play events, we usually get to see games that are set to release in the next few months, but there’s always a surprise or two added too, with previous reveals including the likes of God of War: Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, and Wolverine.

Here is everything that happened during Sony’s State of Play June 2022 event.

Sony hosted its latest State of Play event which is in place of its previous slot at E3. The event took place over 30 minutes with plenty of new trailers and announcements focused on the PS5 and new PSVR2.

The event took place on Thursday, June 2nd, at 3 pm PT/6 pm EST/11 pm BST.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is coming in 2023

Sony kicked off the State of Play event with a bang by announcing that the Resident Evil 4 Remake is in development and will be released on March 24th, 2023.

The trailer showcased Leon Kennedy as he arrived in Spain and also gave us a glimpse at some other characters in the game such as Luis.

It was also revealed that the game will feature PSVR2 content too, but no other information was given, although it does appear to be different from the Resident Evil 4 VR that was released last year and we’re unsure right now whether it will be exclusive to PSVR2 or also available on PC.

Resident Evil Village VR

Capcom decided to reveal all of its information in one swoop by immediately announcing the upcoming Resident Evil Village VR port that will be coming to PSVR2.

No release date was given for the game, and it is likely that it will also release on PC too.

The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners Chapter 2 announced

It seems that zombies and VR go hand in hand as the next announcement was for Chapter 2 of The Walking Dead: Sins and Sinners titled “Retribution.”

No release was given, but it will launch sometime in 2022.

No Man’s Sky VR2 announced

Fans were treated to a small trailer to announce that No Man’s Sky will be receiving a PS5 port and will be a launch title for the upcoming PSVR2.

Horizon Call of the Mountain VR announced, plus new Horizon content

A brand new virtual reality entry in the Horizon series titled “Call of the Mountain” was announced, allowing the player to explore the world through the eyes of a new protagonist, former Shadow Carja Ryas.

A major content update is coming to Horizon Forbidden West, including New Game +, Ultra Hard Mode, transmog and respec features, and much more!

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is coming to PC

It has been great to see Sony get into the PC market with some of its top IPs including God of War and Uncharted finally making their way to a platform other than PlayStation.

One of the most popular PlayStation exclusives is Marvel’s Spider-Man and its spin-off Mile Morales. There is some good news for PC playing Marvel fans, Spider-Man Remastered will be making its way to PC on August 12th, 2022.

The Remastered version of the game was released alongside Miles Morales on the PS5 and this will be the version that is released on PC, which will add features such as ray tracing.

New Game: Stray announced

A new platforming puzzle game centered around a cat titled “Stray” was announced during the State of Play event and will be coming to both PS4 and PS5 on July 19th. This looks to be one of those hidden gems that could fly under the radar for a lot of players.

New Game: The Colisto Protocol coming December 2nd, 2022

At first, watching this I was thinking “Seems strange that EA is showing off Dead Space ahead of their own presentation”, but no it was actually The Callisto Protocol, a brand new horror game from Striking Distance Studios that will be launching on both PS4 and PS5 on December 2nd, 2022.

New Game: Rollerdrome announced

Rollerdrome is a very interesting game, with it appearing to be a cel-shaded arena shooter with the player on rollerskates, think Jet Set Radio crossed with XIII.

New Game: Eternights coming in 2023

Eternights an dating action game, blending a love story with adrenaline-driven combat as you make the most out of life during the apocalypse. Scavenge for supplies, explore dungeons… and go on dates!

New Street Fighter 6 details revealed

After having been revealed a few months ago, we’ve finally got new details and gameplay for Street Fighter 6, as well as the news that the game will be released in 2023, although that is all that we know so far in terms of its release date.

But, we got a look at some returning characters such as Ryu and Chun-Li, as well as a new character called Jamie.

Street Fighter 6 will also have a real-time commentary feature, which could add a fun new spin to the game.

Releasing in 2023 on PS4 and PS5, Street Fighter 6 will also likely launch on PC and possible Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, although Street Fighter V did skip Xbox completely.

Tunic launching in September 2022

Tunic is one of the most beloved games to be released in 2022, with it launching on PC and Xbox in March 2022.

It was announced that the game would finally make its way to both PS4 and PS5 on September 27th, 2022.

New Game: Season: A Letter to the Future coming in 2022

Season: A Letter to the Future looks to be a very story-driven game, but the trailer didn’t give too much away.

We will be watching very closely for new details to be released over the coming weeks and months.

New Final Fantasy XVI release window announced

Finally, to end the State of Play event was a brand new trailer showcasing Final Fantasy XVI, the first new mainline entry in the series since 2016.

This trailer showcased the battle mechanics as well as showed off the Summons that will be available in the game.

It was also revealed that Final Fantasy XVI will be launching in Summer 2023, assuming it isn’t delayed.
