QuakeCon 2021’s original schedule implies a Quake ‘Revitalized Edition’. Indeed, the event may have accidentally given away a big surprise.

QuakeCon 2021 will be an all-virtual event due to continued concerns for the COVID-19 pandemic. The event starts on Thursday, August 19th and will have three days of Quake, Doom and other Bethesda/Zenimax classics.

Here is why we think the Quakecon schedule revealed Quake ‘Revitalised Edition’.

Indeed, the original schedule included a panel called ‘Let’s talk Quake’ for Friday (August 20th). The schedule description for this panel has since been removed however it first stated “Quake is back, in this special stream John Linneman from Digital Foundry talks to Jerk Gustafsson of MachineGames about the title’s iconic legacy and what it meant to both of them. The pair will also discuss the additional content MachineGames have contributed to this revitalized edition.”.

Thus, this suggests the event would announce a revitalized edition of Quake with the help of MachineGames. The game development studio, known for Wolfenstein, already have a history with the classic FPS. MachineGames celebrated Quake’s 20th anniversary by creating a new episode for the game.

Moreover, Jerk Gustafsson, MachineGames’ designer has already mentioned in 2019 that “developing a Quake game is and will always be on my bucket list.”.

Furthermore, the timing for a Quake ‘Revitalized Edition’ is perfect. The game was originally released in 1996 making this year its 25th anniversary.

However, the QuakeCon schedule leak that implied a Quake ‘Revitalized Edition’ is just that an implication. The only way to find out for sure what’s to come for Quake’s 25th anniversary is to tune in to the event that starts on August 19th. You can follow QuakeCon on Twitch.

Anyway, that’s why we think a Quake ‘Revitalised Edition’ could be in the works. If Quake isn’t your thing, you can always tune in to follow announcements for other games and you can check out our gaming news here.
