The Sims 5 announced as Project Rene

The Sims 4 introduces Project Rene during the Sims Summit

After multiple years of rumors and speculations about what the future of The Sims held, especially after eight years with no news of a new game, EA has finally given us a first glimpse at the future of the franchise with Project Rene.

The Sims 4 was released in September 2014. It has been almost a decade since any major change was made to the series, with its latest iteration relying on steady expansion packs to keep players engaged.

Reaching new peaks, The Sims 4 has recently moved to free-to-play. This move has lured more players to the classic escape to relaxation.

The Sims 5 is Project Rene?

In the recent Sims Summit, EA released information about Project Rene. The company describes it as “the next generation The Sims game and creative platform.”

It appears that the project is still in its early stages. However, EA was confident with the details provided to the public during the live stream at the Sims Summit.

Sims Summit: Project Rene is the next generation of The Sims

“The game, which is currently in its very early stages of development, has a working title “Project Rene.” This name was chosen to be reminiscent of words like renaissance and rebirth to represent the team’s renewed commitment for The Sims’ bright future. Project Rene will fundamentally evolve how Sims think and behave, how players create and customize their worlds, and innovate in entirely new ways.”

Based on EA’s direction for The Sims, we are looking at waves of updates for the free-to-play game in the coming months. Those veterans in the online gaming community can relate to this, especially for those games that continue to look at expansions in their monthly active users and player base. These strides of updates would often build up to a giant patch update that would often open the users to a whole new level of the game.

Additionally, Project Rene will move the game to a more collaborative theme for their players. According to EA, this project will give the liberty to the player to either enjoy their solo play or team up with other players as now, they “will have the ability to play their game across supported devices.”

Sims Summit: EA has updates for The Sims FreePlay and The Sims Mobile

The Sims FreePlay was released on December 2011. Ever since, it has been able to do well in the mobile gaming community, garnering a decent 4.1/5 in Google Play. EA has also announced in their Sim Summit that this game will have “improved appearances of Sim’s faces for preteen, teenager, adult and elderly life stages for the first time since the game’s release.”

This is also the first major update for the game, more than a decade after its official release. Cosmetics will now be shared across all genders. This will also be one of the many updates that players can expect for the game. EA is also cooking a new story for the holidays through their yearly “Christmas is in the Heir” seasonal quest. The updates will continue until next year, with the promise of a more luxurious life for you and your Sims.

Players of The Sims Mobile can also expect wave updates with the game. The holidays will bring customizable balconies and gorgeous walls and façade. There is also a promise of the new buy/build system expected for the game. The game currently sits at a comfortable 4.2/5 in Google Play with a 4.7/5 in Apple Store.
