Overwatch changes name of McCree to Cole Cassidy

Overwatch has announced that the character formerly known as Jesse McCree will be called Cole Cassidy as of October 26th.

The name change is a result of the countless allegations of harassment and workplace toxicity levied against Overwatch’s publisher Activision-Blizzard over the past year.

Initially, Jesse McCree was named after a Blizzard dev of the same name. However, calls for McCree’s name to be changed began after it was revealed that the game dev had reportedly been involved in Blizzard’s infamous “Cosby Suite”.

In the post on Twitter, the Overwatch team stated that “as we continue to discuss how we best live up to our values and to demonstrate our commitment to creating a game world that reflects them, we believe it’s necessary to change the name of the hero currently know as McCree to something that better represents what Overwatch stands for.

That name that better represents Overwatch turned out to be Cole Cassidy. As Overwatch took to Twitter once again to announce the new name of the cowboy character.
