OG Fortnite maps could return this week
We are now on the fourth map in Fortnite, and no matter how many new features and mechanics Epic Games add to the game, players will always yearn for the original version of the game that saw hundreds of millions of players land on between 2017-2019.
It is possible that one-day Epic Games could release a Fortnite Classic version of the game, similar to Blizzard, re-releasing an earlier version of World of Warcraft for gamers to go back in time and enjoy the nostalgia.
But that might not even be needed now that Unreal Editor for Fortnite is almost here (Creative 2.0).
Fortnite Chapter 1 map could return to the game this week
On March 22nd, Epic Games is finally set to release the long-awaited Creative 2.0, now officially called Unreal Editor for Fortnite. This was first teased back in late-2019, so it is over 3 years in the making.
The new Unreal Editor for Fortnite will give players the same tools that Epic Games uses to code and create the Fortnite game we all know and love.
Players will be able to create and code their own game maps, modes, and so much more, with the editor being similar to Unreal Engine 5. Inside it, players will be able to create assets and textures and then code the game, which could open up so many possibilities for future game modes that could potentially become more popular than the core mode.
GTA RP has become an incredibly popular component that has kept the game relevant for many years despite not being officially created by Rockstar Games. Could it be possible for a fan-made Fortnite MMORPG or survival game takes off and builds its own large following? Most definitely.
But, before that happens, it is almost a guarantee that among the first new creations we will see are the old Battle Royale maps from Chapters 1, 2, and 3, likely with specific updates such as the flooded Chapter 2 Season 3, the Marvel-themed Chapter 2 Season 4, and Primal Chapter 2 Season 6.
By utilizing old assets, textures, and coding, it won’t take long for experienced developers to perfectly recreate classic Fortnite using Epic Games’ framework to make it happen. If all goes to plan, these original maps and modes should be virtually indistinguishable from the original builds we played many years ago. Can you imagine the Chapter 4 skill level on a Chapter 1 map? Or Chapter 2 with Zero Build? It will be wild.
Prominent Fortnite leaker Fitzy has posted concept images of what the Creative Discovery tab could look like with the new maps included.
In the image, there are selectable modes for the “OG Battle Royale” map from Chapter 1, with it looking to be Season 1 or 2. There is also the Chapter 2 Battle Royale map from Season 1.
Moving into the future is the flooded Chapter 2 Season 3 map, as well as the Chapter 1 Season 4 map when the desert area was first added to the game, which replaced Moisty Mire. Finally is the Primal Royale map from Chapter 2 Season 6.
There also looks to be other maps included in the Featured section, including the Chapter 2 Season 2 map, which was the first time we saw Mythic weapons and NPC characters on the map. The Marvel-themed map from Chapter 2 Season 4 is also added.
Of course, this is just a concept, and none of these are playable…yet. But we can almost guarantee that these maps and modes will be a top priority for developers, and we could be able to play on the classic maps within the next week or so.
