Next Multiversus characters revealed, new Season 1 update

next multiversus characters featured

The multiplatform, multiplayer Smash-like game Multiversus is officially out, with Season 1 currently live! The crossover game brings characters from any Warner Bros propriety to fight each other to the last knockout, and the next Multiversus characters have just been revealed.

After an extended Open Beta period, the Season 1 update brought many QoL updates such as bug fixes, balance changes, a whole new Battle Pass with new content and more casual-friendly missions, and, of course, the official announcement for the characters Rick, Morty, Black Adam, and Stripe.

While Rick and Morty were already confirmed to come, it’s nice to see different and unexpected characters such as Stripe as a future addition to a roster that already contains other unexpected characters as fighters, such as LeBron James and Velma.

Next Multiversus characters to be released

According to the official patch notes, Morty from Rick and Morty will be the first character introduced to the now-released game. He’s arriving on 08/23, and the other announced characters should soon follow. Rick should soon follow his grandson into the Multiverse, as leaks have revealed his full in-game model and attacks.

Black Adam will join the game directly from DC Comics with no official release date yet. His arrival may be next to the release date of his own live-action film starring Dwayne Johnson as the titular character. The movie is scheduled to be released on October 20.

Leaker AisulMV already revealed voice lines from his Announcer Pack, added into the game in the last update. But just like LeBron isn’t voiced by LeBron himself, we sadly won’t be getting The Rock’s presence into the game.

The final officially revealed character is Stripe, from the 1984 movie Gremlins. Just as was the case with the Iron Giant, Player First Games seems to go out of their way to bring characters from older movies instead of focusing only on the big, fan-favorite names. This should result in an exciting roster a few months from now.

Other patch changes

New skins and cosmetics were introduced, making a presence for even more characters like Spike from Tom and Jerry. The game’s director confirmed that, unlike Super Smash Bros, appearing in cosmetics does not dismiss the chance of a character becoming playable in the future, so there’s a chance for everybody!

Alongside many perk changes, characters were the main focus of the balance changes. The nerf hammer definitely hit hard on some characters such as Bugs Bunny, Velma, Finn, and the Iron Giant. Few were the winners, such as Wonder Woman and LeBron James, who were mainly buffed.

A hitbox update is also on the makings to help make attacks such as Finn’s backpack (considered by players one of the most obnoxious attacks in the game) feel less frustrating, being one of the most prominent examples of wonky hitboxes found in the game.

What about other characters?

Many leaks about the following Multiversus characters have been around for a while. With lists including names such as The Joker, Ben 10, and Samurai Jack from data mined content, there’s not an official date for any of them to arrive. But new leaks have surfaced with the new updates, bringing new names to the table.

Two characters speculated to arrive next are Beetlejuice (from the movie with the same name) and the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz. The Witch also has received her own Announcer Pack voice lines.

Beetlejuice also had his own voice pack showcased, but it was deleted, and it hasn’t been reuploaded yet. Again, Player First Games seems to bet hard on nostalgia.

The next Multiversus characters could be any other instead of the aforementioned ones, as we don’t know exactly when Rick, Black Adam, or Stripe will be released. If they are the only characters scheduled for Season 1, it might take a while to see some new faces in the brawl. But on the bright side, the current roster is good for a just-released game, and having constant updates should make the game keep going for now.

MultiVersus is available to play for free now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
