New Monkey Island game to be released this year

A new Monkey Island game is finally on its way and is fittingly called Return to Monkey Island

At the helm of the project is co-creator Ron Gilbert with fellow co-creator Dave Grossman. As for the voice of Guybrush Threepwood, fans will hear Dominic Armato’s voice once again.

Alongside this announcement is a teaser on the game’s official website that says the game is coming sometime this year.

Earlier this month, it can be recalled that Ron Gilbert released a blog post announcing his decision to make another game for the series, saying:

“For 18 years the Grumpy Gamer blog has been April Fools’ day free because it’s a stupid tradition.

“So to mix things up a little I’m taking this opportunity to announce I’ve decided to make another Monkey Island.”

As it was posted on April Fool’s Day and was obviously intentionally written to confuse, many fans believed that it was just a prank.

However, it turns out that Gilbert double bluffed fans, and a new game is indeed coming out.

As there is still no definite date when the game will be released or which platforms it will be on at the moment, fans may want to check out Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge through Amazon’s Prime Gaming service.

Monkey Island is a series of adventure games known for its humor and “player-friendly” qualities. It takes place on fictional islands in the Caribbean.
