Video game adaptations have always been a mixed bag, with some turning out really good, such as the Castlevania anime or The Witcher series, and some have turned out really bad such as the Super Mario Bros movie.

With the recent releases of Castlevania and The Witcher, it seems that gaming adaptation may finally be taking a step in the right direction.

It has been announced that Netflix will be producing a new Sonic TV Series, called “Sonic Prime”, is in the works and set for release on the streaming platform some point in 2022!

The series is a collaboration between SEGA themselves, WildBrain Studios, and Man Of Action Entertainment. According to The Wrap, the series is being animated by 3D animation studio WildBrain who is working with SEGA for most of the franchising and copyright wile Man of Action acts an executive producer. Hopes are high as the latter worked on Big Hero 6, a fairly notable title to have under one’s belt.

According to Netflix themselves, the series is a “high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in his gloved hands.” Additionally, they note that it also has elements of a self discovery and redemption, which may remind one of some of the plot beats of the hit 2020 feature film adaptation for the series. If this series manages to live up to the prior film, its safe to say most fans will be reasonably satisfied with this outing of the Blue Blur.

The new Sonic TV Series is set to be 24 episodes long, a respectable length to be sure. However, this is a notably shorter running than many of the series’ past television outings such as Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog or Sonic Boom to name a few.

Dominique Bazay, Netflix’s Director of Original Animation spoke to some length about his passion with the franchise in his younger years and understands the expectations such a series will have, assuring fans it will be a show great for series veterans and newcomers alike!
