Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine announced during PlayStation Showcase event

As a part of Thursday’s PlayStation Showcase event, Sony has announced that Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine are in production from game developer Insomniac Games.

We don’t know too much about the new Wolverine game quite yet. In the 45-second reveal trailer, we see a bar, clearly destroyed after a fight, with dead bodies strewn throughout.

A man who has survived the carnage brandishes a knife and begins to walk towards a man sitting at the bar.

As the knife-wielding man walks forwards, the man at the bar pulls out his claws, revealing himself to be titular hero Wolverine. The video then cuts to black as the title of the game appears on the screen.

No more information has been revealed about the game as of this moment.

However, we know a lot more about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. In the approximately minute and a half long trailer, we hear a Russian voice, presumed to be Kraven the Hunter, explaining his desire for a worthy adversary.

While the audio is playing we see both Peter Parker and Miles Morales beating up bad guys before Kraven asks if “-one of you will finally give me what I desire”.

The trailer pans towards a dark alley before a raspy voice answers “yes, we will”. Then, Spider-Man’s arch-nemesis: Venom, appears briefly in the trailer before the title appears on the screen.

Unlike Wolverine, we know a target date for the new Spider-Man game. However, it is going to be a bit of a wait. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is expected to be released sometime in 2023.

The two games’ developer Insomniac Games is no slouch when it comes to making great games. Although best known for developing the Spyro the Dragon, and Ratchet and Clank series, Insomniac has made both Marvel’s Spider-Man game and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, two games that received critical acclaim.

Now Insomniac will build on the rich world they have created with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, while also build a whole new world with Marvel’s Wolverine.
