The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is coming this 2023

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Hold your breath (of the wild), the teaser of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was released today. Here’s what we know so far.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released back in March 2017. It redefined the standards of an open-world game. This installment of the The Legend of Zelda series continues the epic adventure of Link as he saves Hyrule from the destructive path of Calamity Ganon.

It managed to win Game of the Year in The Game Awards 2017, as well as winning Best Action/Adventure Game, Best Console Game, and Best of Show in Game Critics Awards back in July 2016. These are just a few of the many accolades of the game after it was released.

The Legend of Zelda IP has been fairly quiet since then. There have been speculations of the sequel, but none were able to prove the rumor, until today.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – what we know so far

The recent Nintendo Direct presentation done this Tuesday unveiled the much-anticipated sequel to the BOTW. It was among the many titles that were introduced during the presentation. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s teaser gave us a first glimpse of Link in the game; jumping from a floating island, climbing and riding what looks like a hoverboard or a glider across the skies.

The start of the trailer showed a series of hieroglyphics that seem to depict a warrior (given the series, this is presumably Link) equipped with a sword and shield entering the dominion of monsters. The area was marked with red streaks, possibly intended to depict a dark atmosphere. It switches to a god/goddess surrounded by seven emblems, followed by a cut to a floating long-haired elf that appears to be unconscious.

The scene was cut with Link jumping off of the platform to an endless sea of clouds.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom rumors and possible spoilers

The recent installment has been likened to The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, but a more HD version. Outside that comparison, a string of comments found on the official Twitter page of Nintendo of America included entertaining banter of how it was more similar to Genshin Impact – amusing, considering Genshin Impact is often accused of mimicking Breathe of the Wild.

During the teaser, when the war was presented, it was obvious that the red outlines were Malice. The monsters were Moblins, Bokoblins, and Lizalfos. The goddess in the second shot is most likely the goddess Hylia. However, if this was set eons ago, then there is a chance that it could be one of the golden goddesses instead, Din, Nayru, or Farore.

A reason why people believe that there may be an element of time travel or possibly a reliving of the history of Hyrule is because of a video posted back in May of this year. The video shows Pietro Ubaldi, a famous Italian voice actor mentioning a project he is working on that “has not yet come out”.

Ubaldi voiced the Italian version of Daruk, a Goron Champion that was appointed to bring the Divine Beasts in the battle against Calamity Ganon a hundred years ago.
