Let October 5th be known as one of the days Smash Bros destroyed the Internet, alongside the reveals of Megaman, Cloud, and Banjo came to another stunning reveal of Sora as a Smash character. Kingdom Hearts had always had a small presence on Nintendo handhelds, but Sakurai let out news about full series Kingdom Hearts Switch releases!

Due to the presumed difficulty of something like the Switch running Kingdom Hearts 3, the title will be playable using Cloud Streaming, and it is likely that the other two collections will as well. I understand KH3’s technical prowess, but PS4 upscales of PS2 games can certainly be run on the Switch. Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance

Regardless, few specifics are known now aside from there being Kingdom Hearts Switch collections. Both in the Smash presentation and afterwards, no release date has been specified, though the series is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2022. It’d be a rather fitting time to have all of Kingdom Hearts available on all three major consoles and PC through the Epic Games Store.

While I am glad that Switch players will get a chance to experience the entire Kingdom Hearts franchise at a low price, it is a shame that the collection looks to be entirely through Cloud Streaming. If a Switch is the only avenue available to you, this could be a great way to get into the Kingdom Hearts series, but I’d highly recommend the collections on PS4, PC, or Xbox One for performance.
