Jump Force will end its services in 2022

The anime fighting game Jump Force, released by Bandai Namco back in 2019, will end its services from 2022 onwards. Players will not be able to buy digital copies for the main game or any of its DLCs, and the online servers will also be terminated.

The game is a crossover between some of the most popular Weekly Shonen Jump characters, bringing the casts of series like Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach, and Hunter x Hunter all together in a single fighting game.

Physical copies will continue to be sold, but it’s safe to assume that new copies won’t be distributed to the stores. The game and its DLCs can be bought until February 7th.

The online servers can still be accessed until August 24. From that day on, you’ll only be able to play the offline modes.

Why will Jump Force end its services?

In the official Jump Force Sunsetting Announcement, no official reason was given for this sudden decision. We can speculate that the game didn’t live up to Bandai’s expectations. During its release, Jump Force was received with mixed critics.

The giant and ambitious cast was very interesting, and some of the interactions between characters were worthwhile for some of the most assiduous fans. But the game as a whole was not the best of the experiences and lacked some depth.

Similar to other recent anime 3D fighting games, Jump Force didn’t try to bring anything new to the genre, unlike the Naruto Storm games did a decade ago. It relied too much on its characters, but it lacked a good story and some technical adjustments.

All of that resulted in a game with huge potential, but that ultimately couldn’t live up to its hype. That’s pretty sad, considering that the game could set up some pretty funny situations, like Seto Kaiba kicking Jotaro Kujo’s ass.
