Join the Cult of the Lamb in this new cute indie game

The roguelike indie game Cult of the Lamb is out now. You assume the role of the last lamb of its kind who was kidnapped. In order to avoid an old prophecy from being fulfilled, an elder cult decides to hunt down every member of its race. But not even death is capable of stopping the awakening of ancient forces.

An elder, imprisoned god offers you another chance in life to take revenge on those who did you wrong. The condition? You just gotta start a cult praising your newfound god and its sacred blessings. Just like any other Thursday.

This sums up the first minutes of Cult of the Lamb, in which your quest will focus on finding new members for your new, totally not satanic-like religion and bringing justice with your hands upon the heretics.

Cult of the Lamb is divided into two main gameplay aspects: The dungeons where you use your god’s power to smite down enemies just like any other good roguelike game, and the cult management, where you and your followers work together to collect resources and spread the word of the lamb.

The enemies can be fought with many different weapons, such as swords, axes, and hammers. Those are all unlocked through regular play and can be upgraded in your temple between phases. Similar to games like Hades, you choose which weapon to use before diving into combat.

Through the dungeons, you’ll find resources for your temple and new members for your cult. Don’t worry, they’re obviously joining because they want to. It’s not like you’re using your satanic powers to convert them to your side forcibly.

Between each combat session, you need to manage your cult by working on more structures like temples, cooking food for your cult members, and collecting extra resources like wood, rocks, etc. All in a preaching day.

So cute it’s terrifying

One of the game’s strongest appeals is its charming graphics and art style, contrasting with the dark themes of being literally brought back from the dead in order to start a new cult. The formula is seen in other games, such as Binding of Isaac, but it’s one of those things that never gets old. Cute of the Lamb, indeed.

The game also has a unique “language” like those seen in Hollow Knight or even The Sims. In fact, building your facilities is similar to building a house in Sims, and it’s an excellent way to diversify your gameplay from simply slaying heretics mindlessly (but this would already be enough).

With many clear inspirations from other indie games, the Massive Monsters title has been gaining popularity, with plushies and other official merch immediately available along with the game. New DLCs are to be expected, and you can already obtain the game’s official soundtrack.

Cult of the Lamb is out now, available for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series X and S, PC, and Mac. A free demo is available through Steam, containing the game’s first minutes.
