if you were around in the 90s and early 2000s you probably have fond memories of playing House of the Dead in arcades. Well, now you can have fun with it again as it was announced during the Nintendo Indie World Showcase that a House of the Dead Remake is coming to Nintendo Switch.

In the announcement trailer we get some gameplay and it looks similar to the original game, keeping its charm and spirit in tact, but the graphics have been completely overhauled and brought into the modern day.

The voice acting has also be redone, but the cheesy b-movie lines still remain, something that fans remember fondly about the original games.

Light gun shooters have fallen by the wayside over the last decade or so due to the decline in popularity of arcades, as well as light guns not working well with modern TV panels.

The last House of the Dead game we saw on console was House of the Dead 4 Special which released on PS4 in 2012. 2018 saw the release of the latest House of the Dead game, titled Scarlet Dawn, in arcades but that was only released in Japan and the US.

We have seen some light gun style games come to modern consoles over the year, with the Wii motion controls and PS Move acting as light guns.

Games such as the Resident Evil Chronicles series kept the spirit of light gun shooters but brought them into the modern age.

So far there has been no announcement as to whether House of the Dead Remake will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, but it seems likely as PlayStation has moved away from its PS Move for the most part, and the Nintendo Switch is the main platform that still uses motion controls.

No release has been given for the game, but the official Nintendo site states it will be available in 2021.
