Hogwarts Legacy is the most viewed single-player game ever on Twitch

Despite its controversial release, Hogwarts Legacy has proven to be incredibly successful and the game hasn’t even officially launched yet.
Although many have been turned off from playing the game due to JK Rowling’s views on trans people, it hasn’t stopped many from jumping into the Wizarding World and exploring Hogwarts in this Harry Potter prequel title.
And if gamers aren’t playing the game themselves, they are jumping onto Twitch to watch their favorite streamer do so as the game has already broken a huge record.
On Hogwarts Legacy‘s early access release date of February 7, 2023, the game has broken the record for most concurrent viewers of a single-player game.
This comes despite calls for gamers to boycott the game, as well as streamers being bullied for choosing to play the game.
One activist also created a website that informed you which streamers had played the game, presumably with the intention of being able to boycott or harass them, the website has since been voluntarily shut down.
Despite all of this, and likely also contributing to it, Hogwarts Legacy has been an incredible success and it will be very interesting to see the sales figures when they are published in the coming weeks.

Hogwarts Legacy is currently the 15th most viewed Twitch category of all time, capping off at 1.25 million on launch day.
This has narrowly beaten Cyberpunk 2077 which held the previous single-player record at 1.14 million. Every other game above this, such as Fortnite, League of Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone, are all multiplayer titles. Some games such as Minecraft are both single and multiplayer so can’t be included.
Hogwarts Legacy‘s controversial development and release haven’t seemed to slow down the popularity of the game, in fact, it has likely led to the game gaining more attention than if activists just ignored the title.

Hogwarts Legacy will be released on February 10, 2023, on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game will also be released on PS4 and Xbox One on April 4, 2023, and on Nintendo Switch on July 25, 2023.
