It has been a busy few months for Rockstar Games, first, they released the extremely disappointing GTA The Trilogy – Definitive Edition, which saw the classic PS2 trilogy come to modern platforms. Then they officially announced GTA 6, and now are gearing up to release a next-generation version of GTA V on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The next Expanded and Enhanced edition will improve the graphics and gameplay of the classic GTA title that has sold over 155 million copies worldwide since its initial release on Xbox 360 and PS3 way back in 2013, becoming one of the best selling games of all time.

In a blog post, Rockstar Games laid out what fans can expect from the next-generation version of GTA V when it launches later this month.

GTA V Expanded and Enhanced graphics options

GTA V Expanded and Enhanced edition will feature many different graphics options, much like many next-generation titles, with them varying in resolutions and frame rates.

Fidelity mode will allow players to run GTA V at native 4K with the highest graphics settings and ray tracing will be enabled, however, the game will only be able to run at 30fps, which is disappointing. On the Xbox Series S the game will be able to run at native 4K in Fidelity mode but won’t utilize ray tracing.

Performance mode will target the most responsive gameplay experience and will run at 60fps with a resolution of up to upscaled 4K, while the Xbox Series S will run at 1080p.

There also is a Performance RT mode that blends the two graphics settings together, which will run at upscaled 4K at 60fps but also being able to utilize ray tracing offering the best of both worlds.

“These new versions also offer across-the-board improvements including faster loading times, increased population and traffic variety, increased vegetation density, improved lighting quality across shadows, water reflections, and other elements. Plus improved anti-aliasing, motion-blur, highly detailed new explosions, fire, and much more.”

GTA V E&E will also utilize haptic feedback and dynamic resistance on PlayStation 5, “adding new sensations to weather effects, directional damage, rough road surfaces, explosions.” The game will also use Tempest 3D positional audio on PlayStation 5 and Spatial Sound on Xbox Series X|S to offer the most immersive sound quality.

GTA Online improvements

GTA Online will also see its share of improvements and new additions too, including new vehicles and a new addition to the Los Santos Car Meet: Hao’s Special Works.

“Hao’s Special Works encompasses best-in-class vehicle upgrades, a new class of Races using specially modified vehicles, and a weekly rotation of Hao’s Special Works Time Trials, along with a Premium Test Ride, where you can get behind the wheel of these newly modified vehicles for free.”

GTA Online will also become a standalone title for the first time in the game’s history, allowing players to download the game for free without the need to purchase the story mode. There will also be a new Career Builder option for new players, which will grant $4 million to allow players to purchase weapons, properties, and vehicles.

Character transfer in GTA Online

Since 2014, GTA V and GTA Online have been on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, enjoyed by millions of players. Now with the new PS5/Xbox Series X version being released, many will be looking to move over to the next-generation version of the game.

Players will be able to transfer both their story progression and GTA Online character to the new version of the game for free, allowing players to pick up where they left off. This migration includes any Characters, GTA$, Progression, Stats, Vehicles, Properties, Weapons, Clothing, and Player-Created Jobs.
