Following the GTA 6 hacking fiasco and Rockstar’s subsequent apology, a reported arrest was made by the City of London Police.

A recent tweet from the official City of London Police Twitter account confirmed that they arrested a 17-year-old in Oxfordshire on suspicion of hacking. The tweet also cited that this was concerning the investigation supported by the UK’s National Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU). The tweet ends with a confirmation that the suspect remains in police custody.

Updates of the arrest continue to flood various social media platforms. A journalist named Matthew Keys updated on Twitter saying “Arrest of 17-year-old by police in the United Kingdom over the hack of Rockstar and possibly Uber was done in concert with an investigation conducted by the FBI, according to a source with knowledge of the matter.”

A recent report from BBC also confirmed this news. “A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of hacking as part of an investigation by the National Crime Agency.” as mentioned on their website.

Based on what we know so far, following the arrest, the 17-year-old hacking suspect is believed to be connected to a group identifying itself as “Lapsus$,” a group that organizes primarily via Telegram channels. A previous post from the Grand Theft Auto 6 hacker used the handle teapotuberhacker on various social media platforms may confirm this connection.

Under that username, the same 17-year-old could also be the culprit for the recent events that led to the hacking of Uber. A recent report from Forbes regarding the arrest of the username “‘TeaPot” links the same suspect to what happened to Rockstar Games with GTA 6.
